While I have never been as big a fan of his writing as many others are, Ellison had a huge impact on science fiction. Unfortunately, I'll now have to give up all hope of seeing The Last Dangerous Visions.

Another one of the greats gone. And another one I've never read.

The most I've seen from Ellison was from a scifi panel talk on one of the Dune miniseries DVDs. I remember he referred to religion as humanity's last vestige of barbarism. That always stuck with me.

His "'Repent, Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman" has always stuck with me, as it was one of the first moments that I became aware of the trickster's potential role in civil disobedience. Ellison is not one of my favorite authors, but that was definitely a light bulb moment.  May he rest in peace.
