Farewell and welcome rituals/celebrations
« on: September 18, 2021, 07:07:52 am »
Came across a YouTube video in which they did a farewell to summer ritual, and another by someone else in which they did a welcoming the autumn ritual.

This caught my attention this year, and I was going to ask what date I should do this on (but have since answered my own question as Mabon is drawing nigh, so I shall do the farewell to summer one just prior, probably tomorrow; then, I shall aim to do the welcoming the autumn one on the equinox (or if all else fails then the equilux)).

Is this something you incorporate into your practice?  If so, would you mind sharing some details of what you do in your rituals?  Also, when do you do them?

I shall probably just make mine a mini-'going away party' for the summer, with some pleasant foods to indulge in.  Probably also some outdoor meditation/relaxation to make the most of the remaining fine weather (if I haven't just jinxed it by saying that).

I might try to come up with something slightly more elaborate for the welcoming the autumn, but have yet to decide what (though it'll most likely involve food, too!)  I'm waiting on my friend to see if she wants to celebrate Mabon together, and if so when.

Is [a farewell to summer ritual/welcoming the autumn ritual] something you incorporate into your practice?  If so, would you mind sharing some details of what you do in your rituals?  Also, when do you do them?

I can't claim that this was especially spiritual, but since summer is my favorite season, I used to (in my 20s and 30s) do a Welcome Summer Drinkathon and a Farewell Summer Drinkathon, the first around Memorial Day, the second around Labor Day. I'd start on the far East Side of Manhattan and work my way to the far West Side, roughly at the latitude of the East Village / Greenwich Village / Chelsea (for those who know Manhattan), stopping at every gay bar along the way to have a Long Island Iced Tea...and back then, that was a lot of gay bars! By the time I hit the West Side, I was smashed.

I retired that particular tradition sometime before I hit 40. Sloppy isn't pretty, but especially not in middle age.

Still, it was a way to mark the passage of the season.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs
