Back to the Birthplace of Gods

My employer announced a week or so ago that we were getting the week between Xmas and New Year’s off, and despite the expense of last-minute holiday travel, I decided that instead of staying home alone binge-watching stupid shit on TV all those days, I’d splurge and go somewhere…

…so this morning I booked a 3-night trip to Mexico City. This is personally significant spiritually, because it was almost 35 years ago that I took my first trip abroad alone, starting in Mexico, and while visiting their fantastic Museum of Anthropology the seeds were planted for the idea that would flower into my gods and their myths.
I remember how, back in my room after the museum visit, with tantalizing tidbits about Mesoamerican gods in my head, I thought to myself: “What would a polytheism of the future look like?” That’s the moment when I first took pen to paper to sketch out symbols for the gods, symbols I still use today. (See my mandala below, which has **absolutely zero** connection to the monumental Aztec sun stone that loomed in my imagination long after it loomed over me in the museum. No connection **at all**. 😉 )

Anyway, I’m excited to soon return to the scene of the crime. If anybody knows Mexico City today and has any good recommendations (places to eat, things to do and see, etc.), those recs are welcome!
