Prayers, Magick, Whatever You Can Do for a Missing Dog
« on: December 11, 2012, 05:06:50 pm »
This dog

has been on the run since 15th of August (!!). His owner is worried sick as you can well imagine. He's most likely around my village, although nobody has reported seeing him once. :( I'm on constant lookout and have walked countless hours in searches with and without my dogs. The owner drives over daily, but all we've got is tracks. It's winter, it's cold and whippets aren't exactly made to survive in this weather!

Dog seeker dogs have confirmed that tracks I've found are the missing dog's, but while we've found places he visits regularly and his routes, his hiding spot hasn't been found yet. It doesn't help that the woods around his routes are very, very difficult for humans to search.

So, whatever you think would help is appreciated! Please, do NOT go for any kind of "Go Home!" -themes, the route has too many too dangerous (especially in current conditions of visibility) roads to cross. "Remember you are a pet, go and meet your owner when she comes looking" could work well. Even a "let your owner know where you hide"...

Thanks in advance!

F.

I am not sure...
Tried to reach him, but I am not sure I got contact.
Atm I can't even say for sure, he is still alive - but that's just because I didn't get any contact. I'll try again tomorrow.

Have you tried to lay out food on the ways he's taking? And see if there are any tracks?
(If there is no snow on the ground, flour will do the trick.)

And do you have a map of the area, google satellite, I might can use to get a feel.
I've participated in a few missed-pet searches via telepathy, with other animal communicators and a map helps.

Oh my! That poor baby.

I have read that missing dogs do not always recognize their owners right away, so even when they see them, the dog runs. The recommended advice is for the owner to sit on the ground, side facing the dog, and not look at the dog. Just sit quietly until they approach and slowly earn their trust until they "get it".

Has the owner tried sitting out at any of the places you believe the dog visits for a few hours? They may also want to lay down a piece of their clothing (recently worn) at one of those sites.

My dad would toss a shirt on the ground when he lost his hunting dog, come back the next day, and the dog would be laying on the shirt. He said at first she'd run off again, so he'd just sit down quietly and eventually she came back.

I hope the dog is found safe soon.

Is there any kind of code or ritual the owners had with the dog?  When my sister's American Eskimo goes missing she goes to the driveway (or the river, if he's been gone long) and shakes his leash.  She has to take him for a walk before taking him home, but he never seems to care that he's having a walk on his own to begin with.

My mom's poodle went missing for three months.  He followed us somewhere, got lost, and ended up joining a feral pack.  When we found him he wouldn't come to us, but then my dad drove to the area, opened the car door, and asked if he wanted to go for a ride.  He couldn't see him from the car, but Mickey came tearing out of the bush for the treat. :)

Something the dog might remember on the level of instinct, like walks and rides, could bring his attention back to home.

Yes, there's been feeding going on in several locations since the dog got missing. There's been game cameras, but as the dog seems to be active when it's dark (and it's mostly dark this time of year), there's loads of images of "something was there to activate the camera, but it's not there anymore", as well as images of raccoons, cats, one of a lynx - depending on the locations. Flour on the ground doesn't work in windy and wet conditions, which it has been the whole of autumn until snow came and the winds tend to cover even tracks a bit too quickly even with snow.

Before snow, I was able to find fitting tracks in the few spots of soft sand, with snow (it's now the third snow we got) it's been easier to find the areas of movements.

Latest time a dog tracking dog  confirmed the missing guy is still around was a little less than two weeks ago and I found suitable tracks last weekend. The owner's other dogs reacted to the tracks as they have with previously confirmed tracks - but neither her dogs nor mine are trained to be dog finders...

Certainly. I'll PM it to you (as I'm not comfortable of airing my exact location to the whole of netdom).

Yes, she's tried grilling at the spot, sitting still (with a feeling someone was watching, hidden) immediately as the dog vanished. The first day she was probably at the wrong spot, but after I found suitable tracks, the same thing was done at the newer location. She's spent countless nights with her other dogs sitting in a van with her, the owner and her husband trying to just be there.

There's been clothing and whatnot in the woods, some have been gone missing and one shirt was found at a barn the dog possibly stayed at (and where there was a feeding spot for him), until a storm blew the barn's doors off.

It's amazing how quickly dogs "turn wild". When my Pharaoh Hound got missing, he was only gone for two days but he still treated me as a stranger when I found him until his curious as heck nature got him to carefully approach me and when he got close enough, he clicked back to "pet dog mode". (There was a spotting, so I drove on the location and slept in my car with a door open - lucky for me Pharaohs are quite vocal, so I heard him barking at something, managed to sneak close and thus got him.)

I think this dog is a bit on the shyer side to begin with and with there being few people living here and loads of difficult to walk woods, there are plenty of places to hide and stay out of sight in general.

The problem's been getting near where he is, instead of seeing later on where he's been... :( I'm pretty sure the owner has tried all kinds of rituals she's had.

This is a relatively young dog, who bolted off after a deer and got lost. So, he's in an area he wasn't that familiar to begin with and probably got quite scared when realizing that.

During the time he's been missing his general area of activity has moved a mile or so (~ 1,5 km) towards where I live.

As an addition: I've got one villager ask me where I found my missing dog. He mistook the missing whippet for my pharaoh hound. So, it is possible the dog has been spotted, but has been mistaken for being mine running around. There's flyers at shops and there should be ones put into people's mail boxes, but as I'm constantly around with my dogs, there may be others like him thinking the dog was missing for a while, but now both runs free in the area and goes for leash walks with me.

I can vouch for Tana's ability to contact animals.  She's successfully reached 2 of my cats who got out of the house, and even provided corroborating information to confirm she was "talking" to the right cats.

Fingers crossed for this pup, and lighting a candle now to ask for Brighid's help and to add some "remember you're a pet dog and let the people find you" energy.

I wonder if someone has taken him in. I'll send something here as you have said to do. A where are you hiding thing.
