Anyway, whatever it ends up being, I could sure use whatever you guys got in the way of energy, prayers, etc, for it to heal up quick. I'm facing a lot of time off my feet in the near future and it might drive me insane. (Also it has completely borked my job search, so if you have any extra prayers for lottery winnings/prosperity/my book suddenly becoming a bestseller/etc that would be amazing, as I am definitely not going to be working outside the home anytime soon.)

Thanks so much, everyone.

In all seriousness, I can send you some 'boring' energy if you would like it, Morag. I promise it's not the neverending ennui sort, either. Just a lot of comfortable regularity.

Just let me know if you like me to send you a little.

I would actually really love that, thank you. Comfortable regularity sounds amazing.

To everyone: thank you so much for the hugs and support. It is really helping me right now as I am pretty much mired in depression over this.

Crap. As someone who had arthroscopic knee surgery 3 weeks ago (and lives in a fifth-floor walk-up), I totally sympathize. Suddenly finding one's mobility limited *sucks*.

Thanks, Altair. It really does suck.

Let us know what the doctor says. And bless Canada for having government-provided universal health care.

I am so happy I am no longer in the US, let me tell you. The only bill we're getting is for the crutches and the immobilizer -- under 100 bucks. (And if we were uninsured it would only be 300 for the visit. Definitely beats the 8,000+ I got charged in Maui for an ER trip.)

So we went to the hospital last night -- got there at about 8pm, and got home at 2am. I didn't get seen by a doc until just before 1am, so 5 of those 6 hours was just waiting room.

Long and short of the story: there's no fracture. That's the bad news, because a fracture would be a much easier fix than what it probably is, though we didn't get an official diagnosis yet: a torn MCL. And judging by the fact that I can't walk at all and need crutches and immobilizer to get around, a pretty severely torn one.

So I have to see another doctor in about a week's time, once the swelling has gone down a bit, and hopefully get a more official/full diagnosis plus prognosis. I am probably definitely looking at months of physiotherapy. Surgery is a possibility.

I ended up blogging a full version of the story, but be warned: it's graphic and depressing and 2,505 words.

In the meantime, I am bound to my recliner. It's now easier to get up and get to the bathroom or the kitchen (and I was even able to get down the stairs on my feet, with the aid of the crutches), but I'm not doing much honestly. Ogre is setting up the kitchen so I can feed myself simple things while he's at work this week, but I'm probably going to try and adjust my sleep schedule so I sleep while he's at work -- as much so I can sleep in the bed as so I can be awake when he's home and able to help me with things.

I feel frustrated and helpless and stupid for slipping in the first damn place and I kind of feel like screaming, but I did enough of that on Friday, so. Ogre is taking really good care of me, though, and that's making it a bit more bearable.

Smother has torn her ACL (and other knee-related ligaments) more times then I can count, so I sort of know what you're going through.  I know it probably wouldn't help, but all I can say right now is hang in there.

It does help, actually, quite a bit. Thank you. *hugs back*

General update:
The hospital called a few hours ago and said they mis-read the x-rays, and it may actually be a fracture, either instead of or in addition to a torn MCL. So I'm going back in for a CT scan either today or tomorrow -- they're calling to let us know.

So I still have no idea what I'm facing, but I'm feeling a bit more optimistic that it may be a fracture -- because even if it is a fracture and a torn MCL, the torn MCL may not be so severe as we think it is. The severity may be from the fracture. I'm hoping that this means easier/shorter recovery time.

Off to get some zzzz's before the hospital calls (hopefully today, as today Ogre has taken the day off work to help take care of me).

In that situation, an x-ray can only tell you so much.  Here's hoping that it turns out to be something easily healed.

Thank you everyone.

They called us this morning as we were going to bed and wanted us in by 11am, so we went in on no sleep. The CT scan was fairly brief, but we had to wait 4 hours for the results. (So we only spent 5 hours at the hospital today instead of 6 like on Sat/Sun.) Survey says, I broke my femur.

Part of me is a little impressed that I managed to break my femur by slipping and falling in the kitchen, to be honest. That is some Grade A Klutziness. I should get, like, a prize or something.

We got home and I decided to sleep before updating this thread because I was completely incoherent and falling asleep over the keyboard. So I have an appointment on Thursday early early morning (7:30am) at the cast clinic, and I guess hopefully they'll upgrade me to a plaster cast or something better than this brace I'm wearing. The brace is supposed to immobilize but it doesn't; I can still move my leg about in it even when it's as tight as possible. And it's got a weird scratchy thing on the back that digs into my thigh when it's tight as possible. So I am hoping for something a bit better.

Until then, I'm basically staying in my recliner except to get up and pee. I was finally able to shower with the help of Ogre (first time since Friday morning) and I feel a thousand times better. Every muscle hates me right now, though, because I'm using a bunch of unused ones to get around on crutches.

So, yeah. Broken femur. Plenty of rest until hopefully a better cast. I'll probably just spend my time watching Simpsons and Stargate or writing or editing or something (and trying very hard not to go slowly insane).

I would love some energy. I think any kind of working is fine; they didn't need to readjust my leg or anything so sounds like it's a small crack, not a break that'll heal improperly. What I'm really worried about is the grinding slipping feeling/noise that happened in my knee when I bent my leg for too long at the emerge the first night and then they straightened it out. It was on the outer side of my leg, which is not where the break is.

I don't know what it was, but I'm terrified that if my leg bends and straightens out again it'll happen again, and it was incredibly painful. I'm also scared that it's something important that the doctors have ignored and that I'll get a cast and then get it taken off and surprise, have like a dislocated kneecap or something.

So I guess I would really love some energy/prayers that whatever it is, if it's serious the doctors notice it and do something about it (I'll be mentioning it as well but we know how well that goes sometimes), and if it's not serious that it heals up nicely along with the fracture. I guess just in general, good healing vibes and telling my leg to get its shit together and stop making my life difficult. ;)

(I ended up giving my leg a talking-to when we were at emerge today. I think the other patients thought I was nuts. Apparently it's not common to scold your body parts?)

I'll be lighting a candle soon, and I'll be sure to send some energy your way.
Here's to hoping it's just a fracture, and one that'll heal easily.
In the meantime, try and enjoy your Simpsons and Stargate.  (I once had some leg-drama that got me two weeks off work, which I used to marathon through BSG-- again.  Also, much pizza and beer. So, yeah.  Make the best of it?)

Thanks MadZ. I appreciate it.

Funny you mention BSG -- during the CT scan I had to stop myself from laughing hysterically because I couldn't stop thinking about the "Gaius Baltar gets an MRI" scene.

So far we're on Season 25 of The Simpsons and I just started season 7 of Stargate. Also I've written over 5,000 words since it happened. So, yeah, trying to make the best of it. Doing okay I think.
