Are you a Potential or Kinetic Pagan?
« on: July 20, 2014, 09:03:47 pm »
So I was on Tapatalk on my phone, replying to Queen of Wands' thread, here, when my phone corrected "Kemetic" to Kinetic. I didn't realize it until I'd already posted, and apparently if you post on Tapatalk you can't edit said post online.

So it's now A Thing. I think the agreed upon/general definitions are what Jack said:

If we're defining a Kinetic Pagan as someone who goes and does magic, makes things, etc and Potential Pagan as someone who's still in the "research phase" I would say I relatively recently made the switch to Kinetic Pagan. XD

So are you still researching your faith or do you know where you stand in the world? Are you Potential or Kinetic? :p

Not only is this genius, but it made me giggle. I'd have to say I'm a Kinetic Pagan in the Kemetic sphere, as in I'm actually actively pursuing a greater knowledge in that area.

In other places? Potential pagan for sure, once I finish doing some decent research.

Can I be a telekinetic pagan? That is, I know where I stand and am actively engaged in my paganism, but only through technology-enabled remote means--pagan blog, the Cauldron, etc.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

Tech-kinetic. Techinetic? Tekinetic?

Telekinetic always makes me think of whatserface from X-Men. The one who was stronger than Xavier but went crazy.

Just for the record, for some faiths, research is part of being kinetic (think reconstructionist pagans). One thing I haven't been doing lately and wish to resume is more reading of the known lore and related materials. Of course, I also need to get back to my meditation practice, so chalk me down as a former kinetic who's gone back to potential and is trying to get moving again. :)

My thread inspired a thread! :D:

I liked the original suggested definition of kinetic pagan, of dedicating exercise to Artemis or so - maybe that will encourage me to work out more! But considering the origins of my original post, I am most certainly a potential pagan.

Exercise wouldn't be a bad thing for me. Heh. I've had some UPG with Artemis so maybe I'll hit Her up for some motivation. (I'm hip with the slang, yo. :whis:)

I'd say both. I'm researching still and trying to find a "home", but I actively experiment and ascribe to things along the way. :)

Jean Grey a.k.a. Marvel Girl a.k.a. Phoenix

And yeah, I always wanted to be *that* kind of telekinetic, but I figured a redefined form of telekinetic was about as close as I'm ever likely to get...unless someone dumps a bucket of pig's blood on me and I suddenly discover I can make like Carrie at the prom.

I'd say I'm both! My beliefs are in constant evolution.

Since it's always moving and changing, does that mean I am kinetic? :p If I just butchered basic science please don't hate me for it. I have an English degree on purpose ;)

Well, going back to root words -- tele means transmission over a distance and kinetic refers to movement, so creating/transmitting movement over distances -- whatever the movement, however you do so -- is telekinesis.

So if you're creating ideas that make things move in your communities via blogging or fora or whatever, then you're telekinetic. No redefinition really needed.
