Books on Uses of Herbs?
« on: October 03, 2013, 11:39:55 am »
Hey all,

I was just wondering if any of you would happen to know any book or a series of books that are good for reading up on Herbs. In both medicinal and in the craft. Any websites will be welcome too. Just trying to expand my knowledge in the area. Thanks in advance!!

Anything by Rosemary Gladstar; Medicinal Herbs: A Beginner's Guide is a fantastic read.

I have a couple of books that I quite like, and they're both available free online. A Modern Herbal, by Mrs M Grieve and Culpepper's Complete Herbal. Culpepper's also has occult properties listed.
Aside from that I have the Pharmako by Dale Pendell series which I'm working my way though, it's quite interesting though not sure if it's what you're after.

Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs

I second this one! I love this book. It is not a magickal oriented one (I still want to get one of those), but it is great for cultural lore from around the world, culinary and craft uses, as well as climate information for growing, and drawn illustrations.

For magical purposes, I like Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs

Dale Pendell's books have been on my shopping list for far too long.

Culpeper's Colour Herbal has a lot of the information in Culpeper's original work, along with illustrations and a bit of modern medicinal information. With quick reference lists, if I recall correctly.
