Discordianism

Discordianism is a parody religion which focuses on the worship of the Greek goddess Eris (whose Roman equivalent is Discordia), the goddess of chaos.

The Pentabarf is the doctrine of Discordianism. It is as follows:

• There is no Goddess but Goddess and She is Your Goddess. There is no Movement but The Erisian Movement and it is The Erisian Movement. And every Golden Apple Corps is the beloved home of a Golden Worm.
• A Discordian Shall Always use the Official Discordian Document Numbering System.
• A Discordian is required to, the first Friday after his illumination, Go Off Alone & Partake Joyously of a Hot Dog; this Devotive Ceremony to Remonstrate against the popular Paganisms of the Day: of Roman Catholic Christendom (no meat on Friday), of Judaism (no meat of Pork), of Hindic Peoples (no meat of Beef), of Buddhists (no meat of animal), and of Discordians (no Hot Dog Buns).
• A Discordian shall Partake of No Hot Dog Buns, for Such was the Solace of Our Goddess when She was Confronted with The Original Snub.
• A Discordian is Prohibited from Believing What he reads.

This is the Discordian name for the events preceding the Judgement of Paris. The story says that Zeus thought Eris was a troublemaker, so he did not invite her to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis. Angry at having been snubbed, she threw a golden apple inscribed 'to the prettiest one' into the wedding, creating chaos as the goddesses argued about who it was intended for. Discordian doctrine states that immediately after throwing the apple, Eris 'joyfully partook of a hot dog'.

The Curse of Greyface Greyface was a man who lived in the year 1166 BCE and taught that life is serious and play is sin. The curse was that a serious mental and spiritual imbalance developed in Greyface and his followers because of this teaching.

The Law of Fives is summarized in the Principia Discordia (The sacred book of Discordianism): [QUOTE]The Law of Fives states simply that: All things happen in fives, or are divisible by or are multiples of five, or are somehow directly or indirectly appropriate to 5. The Law of Fives is never wrong.[/QUOTE]

Although it has never been proved, many believe that the Pineal Gland creates trace amounts of a psychedelic chemical which plays a role in dreaming and trance. Because of this, Discordians believe that they can commune with Eris via their Pineal Glands.

The Sacred Chao (pronounced 'cow') represents the interrelation of order and disorder.

The golden apple represents disorder, because of its role in the Original Snub. The choice of a pentagon to represent order is to do with the Law of Fives, and the golden ratio, which is found in the ratio of line lengths in a pentagon.

This symbol represents the interaction of the opposing concepts of order and disorder.
