Magic as political act

When she visited in mid-October after attending a wedding in California, my mother handed me the “souvenir ticket” from her visit to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Museum. I put it away and then took it out today to use in a ritual in honor of World AIDS Day: I wrote a spell on the back of it, then burned it and tossed the remains down with some trash.

The point is to throw energy against the institutional forces still driving homophobia and stigma today.

I’ve also thought of doing a reading of the Bacchae with magical intent, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Have you ever used magic for political purposes? Done a spell as a political act?
