Way to integrate my Irishness into worship?
« on: June 25, 2017, 03:35:26 pm »

Hey all! I am Irish and would love to feel my patron and matron deities coming from the Irish Celtic pantheon. Instead my patron god is Shiva from Hindu and I think the Indo-Iranian goddess Anahita is speaking to me.

Soo I am wondering if ye might have any creative suggestions as to how I can bring my Irishness into my worship. I don't want to neglect it! :)

None of these personalities are within my area of expertise, but I was just hit with the idea that it might be worth finding out whether Shiva and/or Anahita might have (or be willing to develop) a taste for, say, Guinness beer or Irish whiskey?

Well Shiva is in favour of intoxicants but more so drugs to my knowledge. Haven't found anything about Anahita in that sense.

Thanks for the suggestion but something non-alcoholic would be more appealing to me! :)

Two questions for you:

What are you attempting to accomplish?  What purpose does this concept of "bringing Irishness" serve in your veneration?

Why do you think of "Irishness" as distinct from yourself, and thus not present in the act of you doing things?

While I do second what Darkhawk said, I'd also recommend trying to reconcile your patron god and goddess with your ethnicity by researching the history of both those gods and the Celts. You'll find that- quite far back, admittedly- the Celts and people of the Indian subcontinent are actually quite related, especially in the development of language, and therefore culture. Do a bit of research into Proto-Indo-European culture, find where your brand of Celt split off from the others, etc.

Everything is a lot more connected than you might think. Even if Shiva and Anahita weren't worshiped by your ancestors, there might be cognates and links in both Celtic Paganism and Hindu or Indo-Iranian culture, or a Proto-Shiva that they might have served. So it shouldn't be so strange that a god who isn't from the pantheon of your direct ethnic background to show up to you and say, "Hey, cousin!!" or something to that effect.

I also second what DarkHawk said, but I think that visualizations might also help. The landscape of Ireland is very different than the landscape of India. My matron is from the Celtic pantheon and I usually picture her in a meadow when speaking to me. The place I live now has a similar landscape, so for me it oddly synched up.
