Much to my chagrin I am allergic to the common smudge options of sage, cedars, juniper, and lavender. With sage and cedar it is an anaphylactic response, the others are tactile and nasal. Any suggestions for alternatives that won't prompt my body to freak out? I have more allergies, but those are the biggest culprits. Go figure.

Alternatively, you could use fire and water.  Meaning, sprinkle some water over yourself and safely use a candle flame for cleansing.

Incense gives me a terrible headache, so I assume smudge will also. So, I have a spray bottle with purified water, rock salt, lemon juice, and vinegar in it. I spray it around the room if I want to purify the air, as I use the last three named for cleansing anyway.
“You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.” -- Bruce Lee

I made my own rattle from a small gourd to use for times when it's not practical to use incense... I put dried corn kernels inside it, because they make a more gentle sound than pebbles.

If you do prefer to cleanse with scent, maybe one of those burners that you put water in with a few drops of an essential oil that doesn't trigger your allergies? As it heats it realeases a milder aroma, without the smoke. I've got one, it looks something like this:

Thiiis. Wax burners are so lovely and easy to use!

I tend to use salt and 고추가루 red chili pepper powder. Or I will burn white paper and mix the ashes with cold water and flick that. Or use my bell rattle and fan.

I have some less serious allergies, though something like lavender, can have me in bed with what feels like a head cold, for an entire day.

I've had good results burning plain ol' charcoal. If I'm cleansing myself, I'll take some activated, or apply it directly to myself. I've found it to be a decent all purpose cleanser.
