May Wine and Woodruff ?
« on: November 07, 2011, 05:12:03 pm »
Sigyn asked me today to make her some May Wine sometime soon for the altar (although it's nowhere near May time, but hey-ho)

Problem is, I can't find Woodruff anywhere in the shops and it's one of the main ingredients.

Anyone have any ideas for a substitute, like a different herb or an added flavoring like vanilla?

I don't know if they ship to Scotland, but Azure Green has woodruff.  If they don't, I'm sure there are other shops that do.

They only seem to do bags where they're very finely cut leaves which might be a problem of I need to drain them out. Ah well.

If all else fails I heard she likes sweet wines so I'll probably sweeten up some white wine, and add some soda and fruit to make a kind of punch. Maybe buy her flowers to float in the cup.

Thanks for the help anyways :)

That one's pretty simple to fix: a bunch of places here sell inexpensive muslin or paper make-your-own-tea-bag things. (And I'd be very surprised if they weren't even more common in the UK in some form...)

You can also just get a bit of untreated muslin (or wash it thoroughly first) and tie up the leaves in it, or use whatever you'd use to strain loose leaf tea. (A tight wire strainer, a strainer spoon, whatever.)

Samples of the kinds of things I'm talking about here: http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/tea_tool/infusers.html (Though you can almost certainly find an option that doesn't involve shipping from the US west coast...)
