If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

I'm want to worship Hades but don't know how.
« on: August 28, 2012, 12:08:57 am »
Some time ago I asked on a different thread in a different category of how to find a God/Goddess to worship.  There were a few good suggestions but one seem to make a lot of sense, to do research and to just try a Deity one at a time until I find one that fits right.

So far I have been thinking about Hades. Personally I already know a little about him from learning about Greek mythology in grade school and he has always been my favorite Greek god ESP. In the story of Hades and Persephone. Nine the less those aren't the main reason why I very chosen him because I haven't even thought off the back to worship him the moment I decided to switch to Paganism. It wasn't until I recess that it was time to look for a deity that I start considering him.

Anyways so far the only r!search I thought of doing was to look up images of Hades as well as the symbols representing Hades.  I had also found a prayer for Hades.

I think I lost myself to the original reason why I wanted to post this thread.  I really have no idea what to do to worship Hades, how and when should I do so? What I mean by when is time of day because I believe the best way to make it work would be to do so. On my own time with exception to any specific days that Hades is worshipped. I forgot to mentioned I also tried to look up videos of an example of such rituals but only found one, most vids tributing to hades are more towards the Hades form the Disney movie.

It is because of this that I decided to cone here to get some pointers and ideas. Perhaps some e/perience with him just to give me air general idea.

So far I planned to draw a picture of him because I'm really god at drawing but as soon as I started with the hooded cloak I decided to take a break from that. I'm also curious if he would would appreciate that as a gift.  I'm also curious what to use for my altar and where I could acquire a small figurine or something like that because my town doesn't
T have many stores that sells stuff that represents other gods except one but none related to Hades.

Before going all out and acquiring things, have you thought about why you want to worship Hades?  What will worship of Him bring to your life?

I highly recommend reading this to help you get started.

I'd say do more research. It sounds like you're cloudy on who He is and what He does, as well as why you want to worship Him.

I agree with others - examine the reasons why you wish to worship Hades. While, unlike the pop culture portrayals, He is not an "evil" deity, He isn't the one who was commonly worshiped, aside from funeral rites, some obscure cults and esoteric schools (and if you discard the worship of Plouton as the Giver of Riches). The ancients thought, that He has no use for their offerings and devotion; as He is the one who would get everyone at the end. Besides, some considered that getting the attention of the God of Underworld would be a bad idea, which may result in premature death.

Another instance of calling to Hades would be the "curse tablets", in which the Chtonic Gods, Hades among them, are asked to cause harm to someone.

So, what do you want to gain from a close relationship with Him?

i'm aware i wasn't clear the first time simple because i wasn't sure blent word it then or now,but if it all help i will do my best to explain. I'm not sure if it's one reason or a few, anyways. One, someone to talk to especially an but my dad, he died a few years ago.  Second, i respect what he does. I may not know a out ye but i'm sure he does more than place them where they belong n say "next". This second reason kinda goes w next statment.

i'm aware he isn't evil, in fact in away he does much good by giving good people peace n if they want a second chance of life. He is fair n like i said before i respect him. I feel that through worship i could show that.

Sometimes it's just easier to answer one person at a time and make a new post for each response. :)

As a general rule, we would really prefer that you not.  So you don't need to spend any energy on figuring it out at all. ;)

Have you tried honoring Persephone? I'm thinking She might be a better choice for providing condolences and comfort to the living. And She is probably more approachable than Her husband anyway.

There are people that consider Hades their patron, some of them are also active on this board - I'd say their view of Him is different in some aspects from a traditional one... but as far as I see, in their cases He approached them first.

Just curious, why is it inappropriate to worship Hades but common to honor Persephone? Wouldn't worship of the Queen of the Dead attract just as much "negative*" attention as honoring the King of the Underworld?

*By negative I mean the aforementioned theory of premature death.

I don't think Hades had much worship historically; Persephone, on the other hand, was regularly honored (often alongside her mother.) Of course, I think most of the reverence of Persephone was as Kore- but the Eleusinian Mysteries has the strong association with death, so. *shrugs* It's not an unreasonable assumption/approach, given some historical attitudes.

As Juni said, Hades didn't get much worship traditionaly, as compared to His wife; the difference between Them might be, that Persephone leaves the Underwold at a certain time of year, and is also honored as a Goddess of spring renewal.

I'm not saying that OP shouldn't worship Hades, nor do I believe that by doing so one attracts premature death. Indeed, He should be honored when honor is due, and I personally take my time to offer libations to Underworld deities. It's just it seems, that the OP looks for close, patron-like relationship with Hades; and while this isn't impossible (as there are Hades worshippers on this board), He isn't traditionally seen as the one who is particularly concerned with the affairs of mortal men.

Persephone, on the other hand, while belonging both to the world of the dead and the world of living, seems to be more able to relate and comfort our sorrows.

I agree, I don't see how or shipping him will attract his attention I in a negative way. I believe that is just superstition crested by the ancient Greeks simply because he is the god of the underworld. Why would h e bother killing someone who I s clearly honoring them. I could see getting a neg reaction from any god in general for asking favors such as harming someone else.

As for Persephone, she was actually my first choice. Perhaps I should think about it anyways.

I don't think that actually bothered any of them.  Things like curse tablets were basically petitions to the gods to harm specific people and can be found throughout the ancient world.
