2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

I was just wondering since Romans(when they were pagan) used to give the Celtic goddess Epona sugar cubes as an offering. So I was just wondering can a person worship gods from different pantheons?

Thinking of it from a purely ancestral point of view, you should research Proto-Indo-European language. Most pagans are in some way linked to this cultural family. It can be observed in the linguistics how deities are adopted and absorbed or evolved into what we know them as today. For example, Tiu/Ziu/Deuspater/Jupiter. There are plenty of examples.

When it comes down to it, deities in the PIE linguistic traditions are all either related or just cultural distinctions of the same divine aspect. I think if you are called to venerate a deity, follow your heart first and foremost.

Yes, many Pagans and Heathens do. Many polytheists have multiple pantheons. I am Germanic Heathen (Ásatrúar) and I occasionally recite mantras of the Hindu deities, listen to bhajans (devotional songs) and make small offerings at a Hindu shrine I have. It's a matter of worshiping the different pantheons in the proper context of their cultures. For example, worship Celtic, Hindu, Norse, Yoruba deities per those cultures, keeping them separate. That is, I would not offer alcohol or meat to the Hindu (or Buddhist or Taoist) deities but I do offer alcohol and meat to the Norse deities. Many (most?) polytheists believe their gods are not omnipotent, omniscient or omnipresent. I would think that at times "our own" deities would be happy to have help from deities of other pantheons, and that we would respect those deities.

Intresting, the world seems smaller now knowing the gods have a interest in people of all types. Did I make that sound weird?

Not weird at all. I believe the gods of different pantheons have at least a passing knowledge of each other.

But make no mistake, people from some traditions will chafe at people from "outside" their tradition worshiping "their" gods (note the " denoting my disdain for that kind of thinking).

There are born-Indian Hindus who say you can't be Hindu unless you are born Indian; there are Germanic Heathens who say Heathenry is only for those of Germanic descent. Bulldookie! The gods call whom they will; who are we to tell them whom to call?

This is an iffy topic because the conception about a pantheon is harmony, a lack of harmony means a lack of purpose and a lack pf purpose makes something useless. Deities are not random and do not have similtudes that make them mirrors of each other, they are not all the same as many soft polytheist like to portray them. Nothing against soft polytheists since I know their attitudes can vary so I don't want to lump them together.
Consider a deities function in a pantheon, look at it holistically not individually.

A good example is the assertion that Hindu gods mesh with Celtic ones, I have seen this. The mixing of gods based upon conception of universal morality with deities based upon natural forces does not go well . . . ALTHOUGH there are always many exceptions. And I mean a lot of exceptions.
