wondering about Hoodoo and or Voodoo festivals
« on: September 19, 2014, 06:17:04 pm »
so I have started taking more of a personal interest in Voodoo personally, because.

Part of my family is originally from new Orleans and I wanted to study up on the magick in the area.

since it ties in with my family roots.

I know that voodoo has some gods and goddess to it...not that i know who all of them are just yet.

and stuff like that.

but i am wondering if Voodoo has any major yearly celebrations
or festival in its history as well that would be fascinating to read about.

Two things:

Hoodoo and Vodoun are very different things. The first is a type of African-American folk magic, the second is an African Diaspora religion. A voodooist might practice Hoodoo, but they're not the same thing at all.

Also, Vodoun doesn't really have gods and goddesses. It has one god, Bondi, and many spirits that serve him, the Lwa.

Orisha. Sorry for the wiki ( I always say it's O.K. to start there as long as that's not where you stop).

Also, since you are interest in New Orleans style there is some good reading here (whatever you might think of her, she has a good collection). This is an example:

http://southern-spirits.com/

From her site ( I love the Lucky Mojo shop:D:)  :

(the reading material is at the bottom)
