It seems to me that you are more interested in the history of the view then the view itself; and having to face your own inadequacies and weaknesses.

Of course you can use magick for base purposes to protect yourself from having to know yourself.

I'll say this one more time before bowing out: cursing other people so as not to face your own fears is the action of a coward.

This is your choice of course.

Knock yourself out.

It's like we've gone full circle .. you do know you just proved /Darkhawk's/ point here, right?

I really don't know how you reached this conclusion from what Darkhawk has said, but it also seems to me that you are working on the underlying assumption that there are no other ways to know oneself except through one very specific type of magic

Not at all. There are many paths to enlightenment. The conversation was about magick.

*cracks up* oooh, a scientist!  that just PROVES that .. atoms are gender essentialist?

Please tell me what institution gave you this diploma, because I want to make sure I do not send my son there.

My interest is in pointing out that your model of the purposes of magic is far from universal, for which the evidence of history is entirely sufficient.  Your willingness to dismiss the magical practices and work of the overwhelming majority of humanity as proof of cowardice does rather make my point about your elitism for me, though.

You still leave the topic to address another.
Yes, I am elite, and expect a lot of myself and of others.

Wait.  wait wait wait.

Did you REALLY just invoke gender essentialism into .. atoms????

wtf is a neutron then?  or a quark?  ooh ooh, positrons!

Seriously, dude, that's just bizarre.  Not all dualities line up into one axis.

.....dude.

That's a core of Hermetic doctrine, or a way of interpreting it. It's badly explained, but knowing what he's trying to say, I get it
"Let it be that state of manyhood bound and loathing. So with thy all; thou hast no right but to do thy will. Do that and no other shall say nay. For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is in every way perfect."

But by that logic, feminine is dynamic and masculine is static.  So does that follow, or does the metaphor only stretch as far as it fits previous beliefs?

The interpretation I'm ending up with is that many/most/all dualities are aligned along the same axis and that certain traits are similar purely due to being on the same end of the spectrum.

This seems incredibly constrictive and limiting (to borrow an inexact mathematical analogy, how do you describe a sphere in two-dimensional coordinates?), and not particularly aligned with the way that I've experienced the various nuances of life, so I'm wondering where the disconnect in understanding is.

Feminine is creative while masculine directs.

You'd get different answers depending on who you ask, but yes, if say that fits.

I think the swine ( and by that I assume you mean the other contributing posters) are growing  vary (sic) of reading a self-proclamed scientist mixing  science fields ( biology and and non-biological physics) then in turn mixing them with the metaphysical and therewith disclaiming some sort of 'truth'.  A truth which you cannot be asked to back up. A pleasant place to throw your 'pearls' from no doubt, but not very authoratative. In fact, I would say such a position smacks of intellectual cowardice.  But say on, I do enjoy reading posts with that messianic flavour even though they can not...ever...be backed up or called to account.

The only way to form a grand unification theory in theoretical physics is to account for all sciences (including biology).
