Okay, new topic!

Does anyone know of any books, reputable websites, or other resources for knot magic, knot spells, and other magical tanglings?

(I know Loreley mentioned something, like, four versions of TC ago, but she's not around anymore....)

I can track down a paper I read on seidr that discussed distaffs, spinning, and tying and releasing knots.

It's not a how-to, just academic contemplation. Interested?

Spinning seiðr

Highlights:

"..nature of magic winds fits with the widespread notion that one can buy sailing winds from people skilled in sorcery, usually in the form of a cord with three knots on it, which will release wind when untied (cf. Foran 995 and Hagen 2002)."

"That would fit well with the “phallic aggression” and ergi notions. Interestingly, in Þorleifs þáttr jarlsskálds (222–23), a verbal níð makes the earl’s bottom itch so much that he cannot sit still, and therefore, he makes two men pull a coarse cloth with three knots on it between his buttocks (lét hann taka strigadúk ok ríða á þrjá knúta ok draga tvá menn milli þjóanna á sér). This pulling obviously is loaded with symbolism, for several reasons:"

I thought it was an interesting read. Let me know what you think?

The book Witchcraft on a Shoestring by Deborah Blake has a small section about it. I'm also curious about knot magic, especially as a crocheter.

There is a section on this in Judilka Illes's book Element Encyclopedia of 1000 Spells.

I think there is a section on this in Earth Power by Scott Cunningham.

I think there is also a section on this in Ritner's book Mechanics of Ancient Egyptian Magical Practice.  (I think he talks about it).

If he does, then Pinch probably does too in her Magic in Ancient Egypt.

Not sure if this is as in depth as you were looking for, but I wrote this a bit back when string and knot magic was kind of on my mind a lot.

Knot/String magic

It's just a little blog post on some info I had accumulated, either through reading books or talking to people online, plus some thoughts I had.

I try to add a little string/knot magic where it seems apropriate and after reading a few of the sources already mentioned by others,I kinda just wing it and add lib it these days.
using symbolic colours, numbers or strings, knots and lengths of strings and the order of the knots and weather I'm knotting symbolicly or unknotting symbolicly.symbolicaly? that word looks wrong....O.o
