If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

How Did You Start?

How did you start on your Path?

How did you become involved in aspects of witchcraft, hoodoo, and folk magic?

Personally, I was raised Pentecostal and began to look into other religions during high school. Yes, my mama warned me and threatened with hell-fire and brimstone. However, I began by considering myself Pagan. As time went on I began to feel associated with Wicca, but that didn't last long. Those of you that have followed me have seen that I am slowly but surely transitioning into a path, which I refer to as, Religious Witchery. Basically, I do my own thing and follow the guidance of the Deities/Spirits and Nature. Anyways, more about that in the "What Kind of Witch Are You?" thread . . .

Now as I go along and mature within my Craft, I just go with whatever comes to me and work with that which feels as if it fits and meshes with my own desires/practices.

I got bullied a LOT in school, and when I went to take martial arts in order to feel empowered, I got bullied by the boys in class.

So I went to a witch store to find something to curse them all with. (I found The Crone's Book of Words by Valerie Worth. The weather spells worked really well. I never got up the courage to actually curse the bullies, but my dad helped me out and faked trying to run them down with his car.)
Pray drunk. Hex sober.

I know what being bullied feels like. But hey, whatever works to teach those assholes a lesson right? LOL!:D:

I was raised as a Christian, my whole famliy still is. I just felt something was missing, and could not understand what it was.

Then one day I started looking to see what fit, I don't think I will ever stop looking but now I know I am on the right path.

I got started when I met someone who practiced Wicca. Well, let's rephrase that because that's not true. She read about Wicca and walked around with a pentacle dangling from her neck. She had a bunch of SRW books, and yes that was my introduction to Wicca. It was about two months later when I met yet another Wiccan, one who was a little less bookwormy, but a lot more elitist. He showed me the darker, less forgiving, parts of Wicca. Once those two people were out of my life I practiced as a solitary, but primarily book oriented wiccan with a small "w". That lasted roughly 6 - 7 years when I just couldn't ignore that pretty much NONE of the lore in Wicca resonated with me. So, I became an eclectic witch until recently.

The witchcraft, hoodoo thing was a gradual progression. I inherited some things from a Christian relative that was rather superstitious. I just hadn't really considered those to be witchy at all, yet they were. Most of my family members were non religious or atheists. I've picked up little bits along the way. I find most of my craft is nature centric or non religious.

Well, my mother used to practice black magic. Yes, I can feel you reacting haha. But she eventually gave it up (praise be!), and in high school I ended up telling one of my friends about it. Long story short, we decided to try out some Egyptian magic, which went pretty well. That night with New Moon (her 'magic' nickname hehe), we were meditating, and I had a vision or something. It was fabulous. I guess that was my initial calling. After that, a male friend of mine overhead us talking, and introduced himself as a pagan, too. He really taught me, but he was doing alot of manipulation, and eventually he gave it up. I just kept learning and practicing, but never manipulating. I was very afraid of 3x3! I met another witch, my Sister, and she ended up helping me reawaken my empathic abilities. Ever since, I've known I can never be anything else, even if I wanted to be. =) It may not be the easiest path, but it fulfills me in ways nothing else can. =)

Being brought up in the heart of Missionary Baptists just never resonated with me. Part of the family is very church oriented while others just believe. A few times I tried to believe but just couldn't commit. I even was baptized in my adult life..guess that didn't take.

Deep down I've always felt my spirituality was tied to nature but I didn't have a word for it. A couple of months back I started reading lots online and many forums trying to find a path. Home based magic seemed to fit so I got a few books on that. Then the light bulb really went off when I found out about Pantheism. Now I'm interested in working the Flamekeeping exercises.

So is it possible to be a Pantheist Flamekeeping Hearth Witch??

I was raised in Peru, and like 99% of the population there, I went to catholic school. However, even though my parents where catholic, like most of south America, they're non practicing. We didn't pray, and basically only went to church when people died.

I was always fascinated by ghosts, and the paranormal. My grandma used to tell me old family stories of my grandfather encountering ghosts while he worked the mightnight shift at his farm. Or her brother being tricked by fairies, or how she and her sister where once visited by little ballerinas dancing at the edge of her bed, etc. I always believed in the possibilities of magic.

We didn't have internet at my house. Internet was really expensive in Peru back then. I used to go this cyber-cafe,and pay for the hour. I used to research fairies, and elves, and mythologies for hours. And then Harry Potter was came out. I was like 10. After watching the movie, I came straight to my house, and created my first book of shadows. With spells inspired by the movie, and made up plants for the herbology section.

Then, at the age of 13, me and my family moved to the states. I discovered Wicca at 15, but I didn't like it. I bought my first set of tarot cards at 16. I'm now an spiritual agnostic but I still practice eclectic witchcraft every now and then.

My parents are supportive of it (or rather apathetic towards it). My mom actually comes to me for tarot readings, and wants to learn it as well.

Could you perhaps say why you though it was black magic?  That is a term that is bandied about quit a bit but I find so many have differing definations for what it is that I like to ask.

I guess I've just always believed that there's more to reality than what we can immediately perceive.  At the same time, I've always rejected the idea of deity - hence my interests in witchcraft and Buddhism (philosophies that don't require gods).

I wasn't raised in any particular faith, though my mother would drag me to church now and then.  I was initially drawn to Wicca when I was 13 or so, but had a hard time with the Lord & Lady stuff since I'd already decided I didn't believe in God.  It's been a long journey to where I am now!

When I was around eight years old, she showed me a book that was titled Black Magic, haha. I asked if I could read it (out of simply childhood curiosity and a voracious love of reading, of course) but she said something like, "No, cause if you do, then you can do the things in it." And years later, I asked her about it and she admitted she had done some of the spells. She has long gotten rid of the book, and she only does worship ritual and such now.

So it was because it was titled Black Magic.  Thank you, though I have to admit I am curious now as to what the book was as many books in the 80's & early 90's professed black magic but it had nothing to do with black magics.

I started simple.

First, I understood (and this took some time) that I would never receive the type of answer I desired from the prevalent religious  institutions.
Second, I defied proscription and continued my search.
Third, I received answer to my prayers.  Such answers were, for me, undeniable and self evident.  It would be this occurrence that informed my subsequent actions, and has informed my actions since.

I never felt like I belonged in regular churches. I was always uncomfortable. A few years ago I started doing some research for a story and started reading about Wicca/Paganism and I liked how it was accepting of everyone and that there weren't all these contradicting rules. It was a decison it took me a few years to finally make. I didn't want to just jump into something to do it, I wanted to know why I wnated to do it and after I figured it out I realized it was the right path for me and here I am.:)
