asafetida?

Does anyone recomend a good place to get it? I'm doing a hoodoo candle spell and I need some asafetida for the oil I have to make for it. I looked on ebay they only have it in powder form. Do you think it would be alright to use that?  Does it matter? I'm new to hoodoo so if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I know asafoetida is used in Indian cooking... Maybe you could get it at an Indian market?

It is extremely strong smelling when it is uncooked, so maybe that is why it is usually sold powdered in airtight containers. Also, the plant is rather delicate, (looks kind of like wild fennel, poison hemlock, or queen anne's lace) and I doubt it would store too well in a whole, unbroken form.

I guess if you end up needing it whole, you could always grow it. Your neighbors will love that.

I second an Indian market - that's where I always see it.
