Using other Gods within Thelema
« on: November 11, 2015, 12:28:36 pm »
I have always been drawn to Thelema, and the teaching and work of Aleister Crowley. I love the concept of The Book of the Law, and try to implement it into my daily life. So not long ago I decided to combine my love of Thelema, and my Celtic Polytheism into a single system. I use Thelemic ritual, and philosophy, using these to venerate my personal Celtic deities. I never felt connection with the Egyptian deities that Crowley had associated with Thelema. I was wondering if anyone had also done this before, and what your experiences have been, both good and bad.

There's a group here called here The Irish Order of Thelema that does so. They do a very good job at it, at that, but it wouldn't be something I'd be comfortable with.

I had similar issues with Thelema myself, however I think Crowley's use of Egyptian deities aren't very 'Egyptian' either, and very western esoteric to that era. I view them more as metaphors,  and very Thelemic in their own right, therefore I honour Celtic deities in cultural senses natural to them.....but that's just me. Thelemites never seem to have a consensus on anything lol

I have found that a firm grasp of Qabalah applied to Thelema allows for the interchanging of using any god that you wish.

Further, applying principles of chaos magick to Thelema allows for a perfect synthesis of will and creativity to effectively act on the physical world as well as cause spiritual change.

I believe that this is the point of Thelema. Not to follow Crowley and name him prophet, but to be inspired by him to follow your own path under your will.

I have come to a similar conclusion. I use Thelema as my guide to complete the great work. I believe Thelema is a foundation to help you discover your true will. I feel using my deities within the concept of Thelema is my true will! 93
