Anyone Else Doing Quareia?

I am at the point where I am fairly okay if someone is with me (especially if we're driving, so if it goes badly they can just bring me home), but it calls to go to like six locations and spend some time at them if I recall correctly, and that's a lot!

I see no reason why it all needs to be done on the same day; and the point is to experience different vibrations and learn to recognize them: A Goodwill store feels different from a Yonkers, a Target store feels very different from a Walmart (even though you wouldn't expect them to be that different), Iowa feels different from Minnesota, although not much different from Missouri
And if I'm going from Arkansas into Oklahoma, I don't need no bloody sign!!
I know exactly whee that line is

And sometimes there is a particular area that's different. There's a bridge on I-49 South, near Chester, AR, where I swear time slows way down. The feeling disappears once you get off the bridge, and it's not nearly as noticeable on the North-bound side, which is higher above the valley

Hi everyone, I have been enjoying the Quareia system - I think it's an extraordinary system that is experience based and will definitely challenge people to have steady regular practice. I like the author's opinionated tone, even when I disagree with her. The foundational patterns it are also super compatible with Wicca, Witchcraft, Ceremonial Magick, Golden Dawn and Thelema too, which is why it's actually my top recommendation for most practicionners.

That said, I'm one of those people who has read ahead an not kept up with the practice. I'm around the 3rd module, pratice-wise.

The tone was a problem for me too, in part because I've encountered the author online and she writes that way throughout; in a book, it comes across as assertive, but online it's merely combatative.

I also ran an online space for people doing Quareia at their own pace to meet up - the author showed up and started weighing in on conversations, which left an *incredibly* sour taste for me. It's about what one wants out of a course; the appeal of Quareia for me was, in part, no hierarchy, no initiatory lodges, just self-directed or peer-to-peer, independent learning. Hence setting up a forum for people also self-teaching to figure it out together.

But at the moment the grand guru shows up to "correct" people's errors and "answer" conversations - without first checking whether that fits the value of the space - then it becomes something very different, and it brings the authoritarianism I went to Quareia to avoid, as well as ending conversational/experimental magic in the space. It wasn't a "let's figure it out together" place any more, but a "wait to be corrected by the expert" space.

So, not a course I continued with. Because I didn't feel like I could practice the system without promoting her as a *personality*, and she wasn't a person I felt was trustworthy for that kind of social power.

(& especially some of the conversations she weighed in on, I wasn't happy about. I don't think cisgender people - even gurus who invented the system - should ever assume a position of expertise in how the gendered parts of their magical systems interact with trans people, unless they're able to talk about a considerable number of former trans colleagues. Not in an argumentative/political way, just that - they haven't had the observational/experimental experience to know how that part of the magical technology would interact with transness, so why are they talking as if they do know?

"Magically speaking, you're a woman until you adjust your endocrine system" is no more or less absurd than any other proposal, but it didn't seem like she'd thought through the logic of like, huh, so magic is related to the hormonal system in the blood, I wonder how that manifests in people post-menopause or mid-puberty or with a thyroid disorder or during pregnancy...? But I dont think she'd thought it through in that much detail, so it just felt like an arbitrary line for trans people to adhere to.

And more than anything else, no one likes a conversation about "how are we adapting gendered parts of Quareia as LGBT people?" to be steamrollered by a non-LGBT head-of-the-order waltzing in to end the discussion.)

So, yeah. Cool concept, some nice exercises, but the wider context wasn't a fit for me.

Haptalaon, this is also why I stopped doing Quareia. Josephine has cult leader qualities. While in her private forum, I learned to stay silent and lurk because I saw that anyone who disagreed with her (often people who were describing my exact spiritual experiences) got their asses kicked and were removed from the forum.

It was really hard for me to accept that Josephine McCarthy is a cult leader because Quareia is made available free of charge. That was a big point in her favor.

But she's angry and abusive, and maybe she thinks she's an old school guru because she doesn't charge money. Idk but it's clear to me now that she energetically feeds on people and that's why all of her students act like sycophantic zombies. And she will shut down any genuine experience people have if it contradicts her narrow ideas. Which is very damaging - like if someone fed you a meal and then demanded that you spit it out because you were chewing it wrong. Luckily, I never got this abuse directly because I learned to be a lurker, and eventually just left her forum. But the more I saw Josephine abuse students, the less trust I had in her and in my personal experiences of Quareia.

Took me a while, but now I've managed to incorporate some pieces of the Quareia work into my personal practice and now it benefits me. I'm just not a "Quareia adept", which is a good thing from my perspective!

I dropped Quareia for these reasons and the ones above about cost and issues with my disability, but it's kind of good to hear you managed to keep some parts of the framework. I don' know how much I'd want to reintegrate into my practice, but I've never managed to meditate as well as when I was following the Quareia rubrik, and as much as I don't want to recommit, I've been thinking about bringing that part back.
