I love the Gilded Tarot. I think the art is beautiful and it's the tarot I can count on to consistently tell me the truth without sugar-coating it. It's snarky and blunt and to the point. Exactly the sort of deck I prefer.

I agree.  When I first got it I didn't care for it, but when my go-to deck wanted to retire I didn't have anything else at hand.  I started using it and was surprised at how good it was for matter-of-fact readings.  I now have another I use for spiritual growth questions, but the Gilded Tarot is good for everyday things.

I thought this might be a fun thread for those tarot users who collect decks, especially for their artwork or overall theme. So far I only have about 25 decks, but I look forward to collecting many more.

Are there any themes or deck-styles you think could use a bit of a break, or need to be put on hold for the next 100 years?

I've read Tarot for over 2 decades but never had more than 6 or 8 decks total at any time. I wouldn't consider myself a collector and I could get down to two or three decks rather happily and loose nothing in terms of divination. If I were a collector I think I'd want art decks (Dali, etc) and out-of-print or obscure decks... I've never liked collecting common items which could be easily purchased. But fortunately I don't collect the Tarot, just read it when it seems right to do so.

I rather dislike over-produced decks, especially cgi type art, but also slick and well defined painting styles. I would rather have a deck with symbolic artwork which is also visually vague enough that I can scry on the cards... impressionistic rather than realistic. I can't quite explain why but I can not see into the cards nearly as well if the imagery strives towards slickness or visual realism.

Probably about half of any reading I do comes from scrying into the cards rather than just traditional meanings, which form more of a framework for my readings. I need for my mind's eye to be able to fill in the details and prefer decks without shading or perhaps also having stylized line-work. I might see the pummels in the 8 of swords reversed turning into ravens taking flight and that could form a more significant part of the reading than anything else- I never get that with slick looking cards though, things need to be more sketchy or I just see what the artist drew.

Although I dislike it for other reasons I would rather have the styling of the Rider-Waite deck than of the Witches' Tarot, for example. I currently use the Aquarian Tarot most often, not because I'm in love with the artwork or symbolism but because I can scry well into the cards and find this so important in my readings.
