so one of my truly nicer decks the hidden path.

suffered a little bit of abuse last night, our basement has a bad tendancy of overflowing from just bad old piping.

the cards seem to be ok but the booklet that comes with the cards got a little wrapped from water damage.

I am wondering under these circumstances do I give the cards the love and affection I know working with such cards deserves.

lol its sounds dumb but I am afraid of the cards being angry with me due to their treatment or lack there of. And I know how anything used with divination work and spiritual purpose should be treated with a great deal of respect or at least I personally have always felt this way.

I also had to move the altar I have in my basement for the first time like ever cause of rotto rotter coming in today with a big piece of equipment.

Sorry this happened to you! I lost a deck through water damage a few years back. One of my very first decks, Tarot of the Animal Lords, had a few cards get soaked and even though they dried I didn't feel comfortable using them. Not because I thought the cards would themselves be upset (I'm not that much of an animist) but because I could tell which cards were which even when they were face down and that felt like it defeated the purpose of using a more-or-less randomized form of divination.

If you believe there's a spirit of the cards you've been working with, maybe you could give an offering like incense or a prayer before working with them again. Since this sounds like an accident outside your control there's not much sense in feeling guilty, I think.
Maker, though the darkness comes upon me,
I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.
What you have created, no one can tear asunder.

I think that would depend on whether or not you think the cards have a spirit. If so, although this was certainly not you fault, you could make an offering to them by way of apology like Sage suggested.

My poor old Rider deck has been soaked in beer many times, and the Empress card has a sort of waxy burn on it from a candle. It hasn't had any ill effect for me.
