I just ordered my second deck. While I love the Shadowscapes deck I want to see if different artwork, symbols and card structure would give me another perspective.

Others collect decks for the artwork. Some readers have decks they use in private and decks they use when they read for others. It really just depends.

Makes sense :) Thank you! I was thinking about getting another deck. I have this one I got like a year ago and I use it still I love its art work. I wanted to look for another one like a second one because if I travel or I go to a friends or something :) thank you!

I have many many decks.  As an artist and I love seeing the different ways the ideas are interpreted.  Tarot imagry inspires me.

I have three that I actually read:

The one I use when I do reading for others is a standard Rider Waite deck.  It's familiar and very straightforward - and I need all the help I can get in these situations.  (Not my strong point.)

When practising magic, I like to do a divination before a working, just to see if any red flags pop up.  I use Crowley's Book of Thoth deck for these.  It just seems keyed for that sort of question.

My third deck, my favorite, is for all other occassions.  Its by a favorite artist of mine, and the symbolism he uses really keys into the way my mind works.  It's especially good for more meditative readings, and instances where I can really take my time with a reading.

I have two decks.  Sometimes I get better insights with one vs another.  I also have the Thoth deck and find it to be really good.  My other deck is the Osho Zen Tarot deck which is very very different, but beautiful.  I find this one works better for when I'm doing more internal and introspective work.  But I've found the Thoth deck is far better when I read for other people.

I have over 80 decks :o
I love the variation and I often read comparatively, that is I make one spread and then pull out the same cards from other decks and see what new insights I can get. Also some decks fit a certain mood.
Right now I started to use one deck exclusively for one week and blog about it as a way of getting to know it better.

Is this blog going to be public? If you are going to go on to do that for all 80 decks and you'd be willing to link, it sounds like an interesting read and potentially great resource.

I've been through a few in the past, but feel pretty loyal to The Thoth. Since I use it for a lot of esoteric purposes where I constantly find myself putting it back in order, I have intentions of acquiring another deck purely for divination. One a little more 'Celtic' oriented, although none really hit the nail on the head so far.

That's one reason at least.

I have decks that are better for personal use and ones that are good for certain purposes. (My Tarot of Vampyres is scarily accurate with relationship type questions). I have decks that are spooky, and others that are quirky, or spiritual, or some combination of the above.

Some simply pick up a deck because they like the art. It's like buying seventy-eight small art prints for around $20.

I know there are users on the Aeclectic Tarot forum who have over 2000 decks. (They could probably start their own Museum of Tarot if they wanted to.)

I find that this can be a very useful practice for both doing readings and for studying tarot, especially if one is studying/making use of the iconographic details of the cards.

My first tarot deck was the Archeon Tarot by Timothy Lantz, but I couldn't make heads nor tails of it.  Speak to me it did not.

I am now a faithful user of the Legacy of the Divine Tarot by Ciro Marchetti.  I have no desire for any other tarot deck.  It has been my experience that I can read as little or as much into the cards as is needed.

Some people may want a deck solely for themselves-not handled by anyone else.  When requests for readings come to them, they'd more than likely have at least one other deck to use just for this reason.  It may be a second deck of the same artwork (Thoth, RW or whatever), or something completely different. Some people feel that their tarot decks are like their altar tools or healing crystals and are particular about who touches them.

Personally, I'm an animist, and my decks seem to be good at different things/have different personalities/reflect different parts of my personality. Plus, I love having different artwork.

My first "deck" was my Winamp Tarot playlist. It ends up having layers of meaning that can make it really useful.

My first deck of physical cards was the Intuitive Tarot. A bit melodramatic, not as good for structured spreads. Amazing for (surprise!) unstructured intuitive spreads.

I read most with my Robin Wood deck - I just did my first tarot reading for another person ever with it. It can also be snarky and blunt - partially because I keep the blank card that came with it in the deck. (I didn't realize it came with a blank card until I drew it in a reading. Snarky, I tell you. After that I decided I needed to keep it in.)

I have a Thoth Tarot deck that I'm still learning how to use. I'm a Thelemite, and I love having a deck connected to that. I also feel that it would be really useful in structured spreads.

I got the Shadowscapes Tarot because I've been a fan of the artist for a long time. I read with it pretty well too, although I'm still getting to know it.

I have a Tarot of the 78 Doors deck dedicated to Wepwawet. It's a really interesting deck, with some unusual takes on the cards.

(I also have a set of runes, which is the divination system I used first.)

I collect decks, honestly. For the most part, I collect decks that have something to do with ancient Egypt (it's a burning passion, you might say). Other decks, I'll pick up because it's a good deal or because I like the look of it. Invariably, with those decks, I grab them to be given to someone else who ends up needing them at some later point in time.

I only use one deck at a time for anything. Consider it an obsession, so to speak. I have a deck and I love-love-love-love it! And then, something new and intriguing comes by and say, "Bye-bye, old deck! Hullo, new deck!" And that's how I move on. I, of course, don't bother to cleanse the old deck which leads to complications later on when I want to reuse them... :o
