Is Astrology related to Tarot Readings?
« on: December 14, 2017, 06:37:06 am »
I am interested in both astrology and tarot readings? May I know if in any way they influence one another?

So, they're two different kinds of divination readings.

One way to look at it is that astrology is a lot about large things - slow movements of planets and other celestial bodies over time, affecting lots of people, while Tarot is much more personal, about a given person or situation, and a much smaller scope, overall.

Many approaches to Tarot include astrology as part of them. In many decks, at least some cards include astrological symbols. Many people have come up with theories that map specific cards to specific astrological bodies or times or elements. (Some of these are more traditional than others). Some people have come up with Tarot spreads for different astrological periods (such as for a particular sign's new or full moon). So there's lots of options!

For sources that talk about the interconnections, I'd recommend Rachel Pollack's book Tarot Wisdom (which I've read, and which is a deep treasure trove of so much information) and also Benebell Wen's Holistic Tarot (which I haven't read yet, but she's also a practicing and very thorough astrologer - I got a reading from her over the summer - and very detailed in her explanations.) She has study guides and other supporting material up for the book on her website, including some guides to the astrological information.

Thank you so much for this. You remind me why participating in a forum isn't such a bad idea after all. I am not sure if it's the time of the year, but the forum does seem quite inactive. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you so much for this. You remind me why participating in a forum isn't such a bad idea after all. I am not sure if it's the time of the year, but the forum does seem quite inactive. Please correct me if I am wrong.

We moved forum software about six months ago, and comments took a dip then (it's a thing that happens with change) and have been picking up steadily since. But we usually dip a bit around the holidays - people have other things they're doing, or thinking about. You'll see a lot of traffic on the Up All Night thread, when we get to next week, and sometimes that will also spill out into other threads.

It's always great to start new topics, though, if you've got questions or you're trying to sort stuff out. For a lot of the people who've been here for a long time, we've asked a lot of the stuff that's immediately in our own minds, but we're glad to chime in if someone starts a new discussion about it.

I also think that high quality conversation in general moves more slowly than rapid replies (and that a lot of social media these days biases towards quick/fast comments, which also often end up being a bit more superficial).

So for people who mostly do other things online, and not forums, it can feel like there's not a lot going on, even though the total amount of content is pretty high when you look at it in detail. (I mean, even with Twitter's new limits, this post is a whole big string of tweets by itself.)

It's pretty common here for a thread to be going on for days or weeks, and then someone will get a bit more time in their life, make a great in-depth thoughtful comment on it, and things get rolling again. That's especially true with more complex topics, or things that are more in-depth experiences, where people may take a bit of time to figure out how to phrase something, or how much they want to share about something more personal. Or things that take a bit more research.
