Intuitive Tarot readers around?
« on: April 07, 2021, 04:29:48 am »
With that I mean, you don't always, or even never, go with traditional meanings and symbols, but the cards speak to you in clear ways. For me, for example, the images move, and sometimes I get sounds and smells etc. Not always unfortunately, but when they do not it is a clear sign to me that I should not do this reading.

I consider myself an intuitive tarot reader.  I do read the books (because I love hearing the creator's insight), but my first impression of the cards I read is always my own (even when I do flip through the book afterward).  I focus on, not only the bigger picture of the cards, but what parts of the cards stand out to me, so the same card might mean very different things to me, depending on the topic and what bits of the card are calling to me in that moment.

I also find this draws me to use non-standard tools for divination.  I have all kinds of art cards I like using for cartomancy...I've bought card games just to divine with the cards, or cards meant to help with table top RPG's.  I also love dice divination, and symbol dice are my biggest thing!  There are some really cool divination dice out there, but there are also a ton of really neat symbol/picture based dice that I love to use as well.  Much like with cards, I use the symbols as a base point, and let my intuition tell me how they apply to my situation...it's often highly symbolic, so a snake isn't always a snake, it might be renewal or poison or even a connection (like rope).

Fairly similar here, I do really enjoy the books for some of my decks. But there are some where I don't really use the book as much or I prefer to look at the cards and get a feeling from them, or I have a couple of decks that either don't have any booklet or I pretend don't have a booklet because the one they do have is not to my taste.

My partner and I also once built a really quite functional (if a little overly cheerful) deck out of Pokemon cards and I've been considering doing a similar thing with Magic: the Gathering cards.

My other half and me made a complete Tarot with different reversal images. There are several other Tarots based on the game, too. Since it is transformative use of the images, there should not even be a copyright issue but my other half is still reluctant to post it anywhere.
