Hmm, interesting idea - Story Cubes for Divination
« on: June 04, 2012, 03:16:41 am »
I found these online:
http://www.storycubes.com/products/rorys-story-cubes/

The idea is, to cast the dice and invent a story on the go, it is a game.
Buuut, I see them as being an interesting idea for divination.

Somebody uses something like this?
I think I will order them sometime and try it.

On the blog, where I found the dice, there is also a reading done with them.
I think they work wonderfully and leave enough space for intuition.
Go and have a look (the blog is cool, too.)

It ought to work, although I suspect it would be a very personal system unless "standard" meanings could be assigned to the 56 symbols.

*nods*
But I think that it is especially the personal touch it will have, that is interesting.
It keeps the system and the readings fluid. So you - as a reader - are not caught in standard meanings and can assign what meaning is most likely in the reading in question.
This is easier, if there is not 'Da Book with teh Rulez' for the interpretation.

As both an RPGamer and a tarotist, I find this very interesting indeed.  I think I'll have to get me some, though I don't know yet exactly what I'll use them for - I can think of several applications.

Besides, like many tabletop gamers, I have really low resistance against interesting dice.

A storytelling device that DOUBLES as divination?! I NEED AT LEAST TWO COPIES OF THIS.

I expect it would be much akin to the Tarot system--the standard meanings can and do apply most of the time, but you can interpret them more personally if you have to.
On hiatus, but might pop in now and then. Just making it official.

We have these, but I never thought of divination with them!  I should have darn it!  We got them for Christmas/Yule (honestly with our family its just easier to go with the secular date of Dec 25th)  I got them because My youngest DD is Aurora, who we call Rory for short.  So Rory's story cubes needed a place at our house LOL.  They sure are fun though I really like them.  I want to get the action set as well so then we can build more from them.

I am going to have to give this a try, like I need another divination method.... Tarot, Runes, Ogham, pendulum, Magic 8 ball (just got it yesterday, Mrs B started that for me) Dice that I made, Ouija board, and the "angel board" that my Grandma had.... I am sure there is more.  Sad part I hardly USE them, I tend to forget when it comes to myself and really dont have tons of people to read for (which in reality is a lie, 5 kids, hubby, grandparents and best friend should be enough LOL)

Yep I do think I am going to give the story cubes a try!
