Buying Divination Tools Online
« on: July 24, 2011, 06:45:04 am »
I'm looking at buying a new tarot deck. I've been looking online and have narrowed it down to two: The Druid Craft Tarot Deck and The Dragon Tarot. I'm finding it hard to pick between the two, especially because I can't feel them. The only time I chose a deck before it was because when I walked past the deck I could feel the energy from it and I knew it was for me but obviously I can't do that online.

So, it got me thinking: not limiting the duscussion to tarot cards, how many of you have bought your divination tools online? How did it work out for you? Did you establish a connection with the tool? If you were buying it from a shop would you check out the energy of the tool?

For me it is important that I can see all the cards of an Oracle or Tarot deck.
The deck itself is just cardboard and color print after all.
What I need to know is, if I can connect to the way the pictures are.

There are luckily some online resources for this:

As soon as I'm sure that I want a deck, I don't care where I buy it.
My Lo Scarabeo Tarot is from amazon and I was very lucky, it was described as 'used, good condition' and turned out as: brand new, still wraped up, only the box slightly damaged. :)

I have no problems with buying divination tools (or any tools infact) online, my reason for buying a tool is usually based on research - buying a set of runes made out of a particular material for a particular purpose etc. Tarot cards I choose depending on their imagery.

I once bought a deck of tarot cards that I liked the energy of (I was in a shop, I could hold them) but when I got them home that all changed, I had a proper look at the images and quickly came to dislike them - I never ended up using them and now they're on eBay.

I've bought quite a few divination tools online. I've never had a problem with them. If I find that I really liked them from what I saw and read online, then I don't have any connection problems until I ignore them for months.

I bought both if my tarot decks online from amazon.com (both new, I will buy used books bit I felt my cards should be new.) My first deck was the Fairy Tale Tarot by Lisa Hunt and how I chose it was every time I went to my wish list I kept going back to the picture of the deck and reading the reviews etc...I mean every time I couldn't help my self I was drawn to it. And when I got the cards the feeling was even stronger than when I saw them online. Same thing with my second deck.

I'm a tarot girl, and I've bought an embarrassing number of decks, mostly online. The only one I've ever had an issue with, I didn't buy for the deck anyway, but for the book that came with it. I would have to agree with the posters who have said that one trick is seeing the ENTIRE deck before buying; that's where sites like Taroteca come in handy.

I've bought most of my Tarot decks online. I feel the same way about the energy in decks as I do about computers with pre-installed operating systems: it's not mine until I reformat and reinstall. I might be able to find a deck that had energy I could live with or even energy I liked, but it wouldn't be mine. But then I'm kind of customization obsessed. :P Eventually I drifted into mixing and matching cards from various decks and even creating my own decks.

That's almost exactly how I see it. It doesn't matter where I get the deck from, it's not mine until I work with the deck enough to make it mine, if that makes sense.

I've only bought one tarot deck online though, and it was second hand. The energy on it seems so potent that I'm personally afraid to 'reformat' it. The deck works pretty well though, so I'm not sure that I even need to bother.

I have no qualms about buying any divination tool online. Once it gets in my possession, then I cleanse it and infuse my energy within it.

I am a BIG Rider Waite Tarot kind of guy. That's the only one I will currently use, aside of a normal deck of playing cards (and I suck at those, but really good at the RW tarot).

Thanks for the link. That settled it for me, I've ordered the Druid Craft deck. I can't wait till it arrives and I can work with it :D

I started reading with my mum's Rider Waite deck and then I was given one because I bled on it. The original owner decided the cards wanted to be mine after that.

I have always bought my Tarot cards in a shop in that past (I say always, I only had 3) but decided to buy some online this time. They arrived yesterday and I am already feeling a strong connection with them. I love the pictures and the colours, and the book that came with them is really good. I can't wait to start working with them, I am still very much a newbie when it comes to Tarot and I think these cards (The Gilded Tarot for any who are interested) are really going to help me learn.

That looks like quite a useful site in a lot of ways - I wish I read German better so I could tell for sure (most of my German "literacy" is guesswork and spotting cognates to English words, so I can't quite say I can't[/] read it, but it'd be a wild exaggeration to say I can).  I can't tell whether or not they have actual info on tarot history and which decks derive from which other decks - tarot/cartomancy "family trees" so to speak - but it appears from the color coding in the left-sidebar links that the site builders are familiar with that info and make at least some use of it.
