Hello, everyone-
I've been doing the Sacred Days of Yule Tarot spread over the holidays... I use it every year as a sort of Tarot Advent calendar.  (This is a link to the spread here)

http://rajunasrefuge.com/yule.html

I had the Seven of Swords come up for card number four, which is "Hopi Time of Renewal- Dec 23rd. This card indicates the best way for us to seek purification and renewal, and to build tolerance for others."

The Seven of Swords I usually don't have any trouble interpreting, but in this position it has me a bit stumped... it is not what I would define as a tolerant card! If anything, it comes across as being rather more self-serving and therefore intolerant in the way that I perceive it.

Maybe because I'm reading for myself I'm just not seeing it- I was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on it? Any ideas much appreciated! :)

Well. This is just a shot in the dark, but if you've got the seven of swords you have a guy sneaking off, yeah? I'm not sure about you, but for me sometimes the best way for me to recharge and to be more tolerant of other people is to get the hell away from them for a while.

I can see two possibilities (note that this doesn't mean there are only two, that's just what I see):

One, which Mama Fortuna's response also touches on, is that what you need is to put more emphasis on self-care - 'put your own oxygen mask on first' as they say in the safety presentation on airplanes. It's often disparaged as 'selfish' (especially for people socially classed as women) to take care of your own needs, instead of sacrificing them for others, but you'll have far more resources for helping others, and far more tolerance, if your own needs are properly tended.

The other is that the card might be speaking of the things that are acting as barriers to your renewal and tolerance, that need to be addressed before you can move forward.

I can't begin to guess which might be more applicable for you, since you're fairly new here and I don't know you very well, but hopefully that will help you figure it out.

This definitely resonates- I can be quite an introvert, especially if I have a creative project on the go...even the sound of the telly or radio can drive me to distraction, and when I get constant interruptions, even from people I love, I feel the urge to go postal and want to run around stabbing EVERYONE with a fork, (not like to be fatal, but would really hurt.)  Then I feel sorry afterwards for being such an awful person. :o

I feel like it could be a balance between the two of these, if that makes sense. I do tend to put up and put up with things until I can't anymore, and then I either get ill or bottle up the anger until I simply give up on achieving whatever it was that I needed or wanted to do. And yeah, I have been brought up to think that looking after yourself is 'selfish' and it is hard to get out of that.  :ange: Good little girls are supposed to share...even to the point that they might be left with nothing.

So, I can see that the barriers to let go of would probably be that ingrained sense of whatever I do is not as important or worthy as what everyone else needs to do.

Interestingly, the last card I drew for the spread (which is allocated as being "This card shows us how to release the old and let in the new. This relates to both our external lives and our inner being") turned out to be the Seven of Wands...and the first phrase that popped into my head was 'Hold your Ground'!

When I read, I tend to look for relationships between cards when I lay them out, almost as though there is a form of communication going on between them. This particular spread I do is almost like an advent calendar, so it's there throughout Yule...a card is revealed each day. I noticed that the Seven of Swords appears to be running towards the Seven of Wands... like he's bringing reinforcements to a comrade who's in a bit of a spot.

This is something that's never ocurred to me about this card before- that he's NOT running off with the swords, he is actually going to someone's assistance, and looking over his shoulder to shout to the tents behind him that they need to hurry up. Ok, I know he is tiptoeing off like he IS sneaking, but it's a different aspect of the card that I had not considered.

Thanks to you both for your input- it has been helpful! I intend to photograph the spread and print it out to keep in my Tarot diary for future reference.

'Big Waves' to both of you from across the pond... I have family in Canada- Manitoba and Calgary. :)

Oh man, there is nothing worse than being interrupted multiple times when you're trying to get something done! I'd pick a spoon myself, just so I could quote at people while I maimed them.

Oh man, tell me about it. I know so many women who just give and give and then they're burnt out and hurt. It breaks my heart.

Whoooa, hey, good eye! I've never thought of him that way myself! So thank you for drawing that aspect to my attention.

I'm a West Coast gal, which means I'm one of those jerks who calls up relatives in Calgary to whine that it was too rainy for me to go jogging while they're huddled inside against a friggin blizzard. XD
