Any comments on this relationship-y card reading?
« on: July 07, 2011, 09:05:14 pm »
So, someone I'd been with wanted to get in touch again. The situation's resolved itself, but I'm curious if anyone has any comments on a Tarot reading I did (or my interpretation of it).

I drew, using the Deviant Moon deck:

8 of Wands as my significator;

King of Cups as to what would happen if I met up with him;

8 of Cups as to the effect on my current relationship if I met up with him;

Knight of Pentacles as to what would happen if we didn't meet up;

5 of Pentacles as to the effect on my current relationship if we didn't meet up.

Frankly I'm not very good at Tarot so I tend to rely on the pictures, but even then I come up with a list of possible interpretations and no real way of knowing which to go for.

For example, there's a woman in all three of the 8 of Wands, 8 of Cups and 5 of Pentacles cards which I take to refer to me. In particular, I thought they might refer to changes in my attitude rather than actual relationship situation, but if so that still leaves the question of whether it's a change in attitude to my current relationship or to the respective guys. I think the court cards referred to them rather than me.

In any case I decided against meeting up. Not sure I like the thought of being a beggar in the 5 of Pentacles, but I'm hoping that there was a positive meaning...somewhere.

I think it's always a bit difficult to interpret a reading from a tarot deck I am unfamiliar with. Even with the ones I've got in use, there are sometimes differences in the... erm dialect they use. But I'll give it a try based on the names of the cards you've drawn.

Significator 8 of Wands
Your counting on new impulses, ideas, hoping for good news and that things develop in a positive manner.

Option a): meeting him
King of Cups
We have here emotions and the ways to express them.
As a person it shows an emotionally strong man, that can be very understanding and is a good listener.

Effect on current relationship in this case:
8 of Cups
Saying good-bye to old familiar ideas, habits.
If in a crisis ridding yourself of negative things, going a new way.

Option b): not meeting him
King of Pentacles
How close or how far away is your contact to reality.
Look for advice, get grounded, open up for life's pleasures.

Effect on current relationship in this case:
5 of Pentacles
Don't get your hopes too high, there won't be a solution out of nothing. Work your way through the crisis step by step and you may reckon on things taking a while, it will be a barren spell for some time.

OK, that's what I can say without knowing your deck.
Can't tell how accurate it can be at all.
\'You had to repay, good or bad. There was more than one type of obligation.
That’s what people never really understood.….Things had to balance.
You couldn’t set out to be a good witch or a bad witch. It never worked out for long.
All you could try to be was a witch, as hard as you could.\'

Thanks Tana. Can I ask - do you think a reading can be premature? I say that because the 8 of Wands I drew had a picture of a woman about to cut down 8 wands, and a crow about to reach her with a letter - a sign of news like you mentioned.

After the reading I did get a bit of 'news' which changed my view entirely, so I wonder whether the reading was ever meant to be a guide at all or was too early.

Well, yeah-nay. ;)

A reading can only give so much insight of a situation.
The more factors involved, that are not within your control/reach the more likely it is, that its validity is short.

And while it's not a good idea to pester the cards, that's a reason why - for some situation (where I expect sudden changes and circumstances not under my control) - I like to do repeated readings. With different oracle cards.
