I wrote about it on my blog at one point but it's basically based on a card divination system that exists in my fictional universe. I started it for shits and giggles and it's basically taken on a life of its own.

i wanna see it too! that original stuff is always the best. specially if it was made not to be real but ended up being real. cuz then its got the most imagination and stuff innit! you should post a link it or somethin o,.o

I`ve recently started to get more interested in divination, and I`m just wondering what everone`s preferred divination method is, and also why?  I know tarrot and runes are the most common, but do people prefer other avenues?  And if you prefer tarrot and/or runes, what is it that draws you to those particular methods?

Looking forward to hearing everybody`s stories! :)

I like tarot because that's what I got started with, and I kinda just like the feeling of the cards themselves.  My favorite decks to use are, Thoth deck by Crowley, Tarot of the Spirit by Pamela and Joice Eakins, The Legacy of the Divine Deck by Ciro Marquetti, and the Revelations tarot, and I can never remember the author of that deck.

I am interested in learning other forms of divination as well however.

I've got several tarot decks that I use for different purposes. The Gilded deck is a good all-purpose, the Shadowscapes pulls NO punches, Hanson-Roberts to read for tarot newbs, Matt Myers Art Nouveau for relationship readings. The rest I don't use much.

I read playing cards and bones.  I tried runes and tarot cards...  I still read runes occasional and I never felt a connection with tarot just always felt empty.  Some years back I bought a book in fortune telling with playing cards. At first I didn't even read the book. Then some time back I picked up again but soon found myself at odds with it in meanings.  That's when it struck me, I had my own idea of what the cards represented.  I had my own system and didn't know it.  So I wrote it down and have used it ever since.  I have never felt more comfortable with a divinatory system.

I have just recently began working with bones.  They have been calling to me much like my cards.  Still discovering their use for me.

Medicine cards. They're super easy to interpret and use. I avoid tarot and runes.

I am very interested in learning tarot, I feel ashamed to say I haven't really gone into divination as much as I would like too. I have few books on tarot already and a few decks of cards, however I am very overwhelmed with college, house hunting, and a toddler, that I don't have a whole lot of time to sit down and learn like I want to. I remember when I was around 12 I had a neighbor who wasn't pagan by any means, but she loved using runes.

I find that a great way to fit tarot/oracle card practice into a busy schedule is to draw a single card each day, either first thing in the morning or just before you go to sleep. You can then consider the card as a message for the day (or the following day, if you draw at bedtime).

I find it really useful as a way to learn the meaning of the cards instinctively, and it doesn't take up much time as all you need is a period of quiet reflection. You might also find it useful to keep a journal of your daily draws, and any way you find they relate to your experiences.

My usual method is to draw a card before I sleep and think about its significance as I'm drifting off, but I think the morning method is probably better if you want a focus for the day ahead.

Developing my own ideas about the cards in this way has proved a lot more helpful for me than studying books - of course study is useful, but I find myself more often relying on 'gut instinct' with my divinations ;)

I found myself surprised by a deck that sort of spotted me across a little mystic shop and sort of seemed to point and go "YOUUUUU" at me, haha. It was like the spirit inside the deck accosted me and said "Take me home", and it's never failed me since, I love it.

That happened to me with my Mystic Faerie deck, but it was in Borders before they went out of business. They used to have an entire (locked) case of Tarot sets, and as soon as I saw that one deck, it had to be mine. It's proved useful in making choices, but I haven't really tried looking into the future too much yet.

That's a really smart idea. For the summer I'm stuck at home doing nothing, so I'll see if I can't work with my deck some more until my boyfriend comes home from work with my car.

I never thought about doing this! That would be a great way to get started and I like the idea of keeping a journal on what I draw, maybe add a little bit of my thought on it as well. This way I can slowly learn more about tarot and I will have time to do it.
