And, WarHorse - I think your confidence is not misplaced; I'm getting that feeling I get when the deities who concern themselves with your and Vi's stuff think that things are unfolding as they're supposed to.  (Very different than the feeling I get when said deities think things are not on track.)  You will show; that's part of the complicated plan they've been hatching lo these many years.  (And if you ever get to the point where you're competing at Spruce Meadows, and if I'm still in Calgary, I will be there to watch!)
Sunflower

If we get to that point, I look forward to meeting you!

As for now, she is lame, with swelling in her left hind tendon.  The vet is coming tomorrow.

Two hours of ultrasound and X-rays later, she is fine.  Light work begins immediately.  We are resuming our course to the dressage clinic.

In the meantime, I'm having a drink. :p

And very unmistakeable.  I am beginning to wonder if my sig line - chosen on a whim - has some further meaning.  It was meant to be funny, Mattie Ross thinking she was a better judge of horseflesh than God.  Now I wonder if it was the other way around, that the horse was a better judge of her than God.  Spin that one out and see what a tangled web is weaved...

Oh pretty! You just made me miss mine, my girl is protesting a lack of work. If I could live in the saddle, I would. I like your sig very much! And I see the second part... horses are the best judges I know, at least in this world.

Life in the saddle is no picnic.  It has it's moments, but I don't recommend it.  Keep a steady job, ride your horse on your own time.

I know, I used to train horses before a rather spectacular wreck. Now I feed my need for saddle time with endurance conditioning and extreme trail. :)

I hope it was nothing permanent, or permanently debilitating.  Most of my ER visits have been due to horses, but I'm still silly enough to be around them full-time.  Endurance conditioning seems interesting, as you would have to condition yourself first.  Cardiopulmonary, that sort of thing.

That is a great photo! The injuries weren't that bad, but my confidence was gone. Horse reared and flipped on top of me. I hear you on the ER visits. I've been run over, flipped on top of, crashed into a wall, stepped on, scrapped off and been on a runaway. Yes, the endurance is fun. I find I get in better shape as the horse improves but unlike the horse, I lose condition a lot faster. I have to do some extra strength training.

I'll do it for you.  She didn't used to let me, but now that she has a job, she is much more affectionate. :-)

Thank you!  I'm having a fine time with the new lens.

I haven't had one flip on top of me, thank the gods.  Herself tried to buck once, but I had already warned her that she would buck her spots off first.  Fortunately, she believed me.  I still don't know if my warning was fact or fiction.  It used to be fact, but that was some time ago.

As for confidence, I understand.  As a trail guide, I was perfectly confident handling things like rattlesnakes and thunderstorms.  Now I'm going up against judges and railbirds.  The psychology is different.  Rattlesnakes and thunderstorms are gone in a minute; judges and railbirds cling to you for life.

:)  Now I understand the psychology:

Rattlesnakes and thunderstorms will kill us, given the chance.

Judges and railbirds might cling to us, but they can't kill us.

Pondering, pondering...

HmmMMmm... I think Vi has discovered feminism, or at any rate had her consciousness raised about dependence/independence and boundaries.  (I swear, I had nothing to do with this; I haven't been talking about social justice issues to your horse - my oath, however, does not extend to what any deity-type people may or may not have been doing:ange:.)

When she was two, and discovering her feminism, she was gang-banging the geldings in her pasture.  When she was four, she could bring her female pasture-mate into season.  (I have a video of that somewhere, if I can find it I'll share it.)

Neither of us could have anything to do with social justice issues where my horse is concerned.  She is a power unto Herself.

True enough!

Nevetheless it amuses me any time she appears to "take after her Aunt Sunflower".  I can't see any reasonable way this could be anything but coincidence/illusion, but it happens more often than I'd have expected given the species difference:).
