Groups looking a bare
« on: January 15, 2014, 10:38:04 pm »
Okay is it just me or are a ton of the groups on this forum really really inactive. Like, despite the fact they have upwards of 25-30 member there are about 8 threads and most of them were posted months or even years ago.
Its pretty wild.
I mean the threads on the rest of the forum are updated/started/posted on daily and sometimes hourly, so obviously people are logging on, but nobody wants to participate in the groups?
I mean of course I can't speak for all the groups (I can't even see half of them) but sheesh some of them are looking a little crusty around the edges.
It kind of a bummer actually.

People come and go, and have lives to live outside of the internet. Facebook and other "social media" have sucked a lot of people away from forums anymore, a lot of forums being seen as the last remnants of the analog days of the internet If you see something in a group then make a post, start a thread, see what happens. Likely people still check in every now and then and are glad to talk about something.

Also, those of us who use Tapatalk (on mobile devices) don't have easy access to the groups.

Oh
Is it easier to use than just an internet page? Because its difficult on just chrome, that's why I don't use my mobile device for forums.
(By the way, as I mention in the other reply I think that my post came off as really attitudish. Sometimes its hard to switch between what is acceptable talk with my friends at school and what is acceptable with adults who are strangers to me. I don't what to be that annoying bratty teenager that everyone talks about.)

Yes, the Tapatalk app is MUCH easier to use on a phone than the full site. However, there are limitations to Tapatalk, like not having easy access to groups and not being able to see signatures.  Things like that.

(If you use Tapatalk, make sure you remember to follow the role regarding quoting.  It's easy to do, and there are instructions posted on TC about how to do it.  But it's not as automatic and foolproof as on the regular forum software.)

Social groups require a lot of effort to keep active. Unfortunately, vBulletin does not really integrate them into the forum very well. As they are completely separate, people easily forget about checking them for new messages, etc.  We used to have several very active social groups, but we moved them to SIGs (on the main board) where they would be more visible.

Don't worry, you aren't :)
Actually, I'd never clicked on "groups" until you mentioned them: I tend to head in one direction and miss everything else. Probably a lot of others have never looked or have forgotten. You might even have started a groups renascence.
