2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 13 Sept 2019: $656 donated. $6 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Life's To Do List 2019 - Season 1
« on: December 25, 2018, 08:30:10 pm »
I suspect I'm not the only one who struggles with staying on top of goals, so I'm resurrecting this idea.

It's been a few years (2012) since we've done one of these threads.  The idea is simple - post a list of goals for the first season of 2019.  Check back regularly to post updates, celebrate successes and kvetch when things aren't going well.

List as many or few goal as you like, organized in whatever way works for you.  Keep in mind that goals are more likely to be achieved if they are SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic/relevant, time-bound).

Ready? Set?  Post those goals!

Ready? Set?  Post those goals!

I'm starting with the three that come to mind immediately:
  • Write 50,000 words. - I've done a lot of work in 2018 to reestablish a regular writing practice and I'm hoping to keep the momentum going.
  • Be social in a healthy way. - That is, limit time spent mindlessly scrolling through social media, make social time online more thoughtful and interactive (hello, TC),  and do more in-person social activities.
  • Successfully complete the Healthy Challenge, Winter 2018/19.

Good luck everyone!

Continue to practice Taiji and Qi Gong, starting again in March, and finding something to do in the meantime (probably taking salsa lessons).

Start a new degree in Chemistry and at least to pass two subjects, one each semester.

Try to be a better mother every day (I know, this is not measurable, but still).

2) regular meditation practice

3) pay off my student loan.

You have my complete admiration. Chemistry was always one of my worst subjects.

Ready? Set?  Post those goals!

I have quite a few goals this year, all written in a goal focused planner. I'll share a few of mine.

I want to observe the wheel of the year for the first time.

I want to complete a specific hike near my home (which will require me to work on fitness goals for a bit first!)

I want to complete a distance learning course.

  • Be social in a healthy way. - On track so far with one group lunch down and so far, more mindful use of social media.
  • Successfully complete the Healthy Challenge, Winter 2018/19. 1/6 completed as of this morning.

How are you doing so far?

I think the only thing I manage to do is mothering these days. Chemistry will start in March, and the salsa lessons are at 10 pm and is very late for me to go. I'll just have to wait until March for the first two.

Delays can be such a pain, but far better than having to cancel plans entirely.  Hang in there, March will be here in the blink of an eye!

Awesome goals!  How long is the hike that you're planning?

2) regular meditation practice

While not on my list here, this is one of goals for the year.  I'm aiming for at least two to three sessions per week right now with aim to make it a daily practice by year's end.  How often are you aiming for?

Will try to update weekly to keep myself accountable.
  • Write 50,000 words. -  5576 words so far.  I am falling further behind on this one and am going to have to start blocking out time to work on it.
  • Be social in a healthy way. - Still doing well with this; getting ready to host an event at the end of the month, so a lot of my social time/energy is going into that at the moment.
  • Successfully complete the Healthy Challenge, Winter 2018/19. 20% completed. I might actually get through this one.

Don't forget to post those updates!

Goal for 2019 is to expand my mind and, in particular, develop my critical thinking skills.

First step is to complete the free Critical Thinking at University Introduction course I located on the FutureLearn site (this is not because I'm planning to go back to uni, but because their general critical thinking course is not yet running so I'm on the waiting list to hear when it's next going to run).  I have until 1 March to complete this while it's still free - it's meant to be 4 hours a week for 2 weeks, but I'm pretty sure I've already spent more than 4 hours & am only two thirds of the way through week one, but nevermind.

And quick on the heels of my original post in this thread, I'm very pleased with myself to be able to announce I've now completed week one of that free online course (I'm not at all smug, here, can you tell?).

I hate to brag, but (wait... no, I don't) ...so I've now completed week two of that course.  I'd say it definitely took longer than the four hours a week (over two weeks) it was meant to, as I've spent at least a couple of hours a night on it most nights since starting it at about the start of February.  But anyway, it's done, and I've got some further reading and a 6 podcast series to move onto as next steps.
