NASA Mars Rover Opportunity Reveals Geological Mystery: Spherical Objects Unlike Previously Found 'Blueberries'

Spherical objects concentrated at an outcrop Opportunity reached last week differ in several ways from iron-rich spherules nicknamed "blueberries" the rover found at its landing site in early 2004 and at many other locations to date.

Very interesting. Can't say much more given there does seem to be much more info and geology is so not my field.

Saw this article on tumblr, which I replied to..



Found only a single small patch of these things during a trip to Lake Powell. Brought back a bunch of them, showed one to a geologist neighbor, and he had no idea how the things were formed.

Awesomeeeee.
