Did Neanderthals Make Jewellery After All?
« on: May 27, 2013, 07:48:09 pm »
The theory that later Neanderthals might have been sufficiently advanced to fashion jewelery and tools similar to those of incoming modern humans has suffered a setback. A new radiocarbon dating study, led by Oxford University, has found that an archaeological site that uniquely links Neanderthal remains to sophisticated tools and jewelery may be partially mixed.

The question in my mind is whether later inhabitants would have buried their dead in the cave. With 15 archaeological layers a total of four meters deep, a few later graves would explain a lot

It would.  Another site was mentioned in the article. I hope someone will do similar carbon-dating on object found there.
