Solar Eclipse, 10 June 2021
« on: June 10, 2021, 09:26:30 am »
Did anybody see it?

It was only a partial eclipse in NYC and only barely visible, thanks to a combo of it occurring right at dawn NY tine and it being largely obscured by clouds that moved onto the horizon soon thereafter. Still, I got a glimpse of the sun as a crescent. I hope others in other parts of the world had better views!

I saw the total solar eclipse in 2017, traveling to Nashville, TN, to get that one; the feeling of awe, of the numinous, to look up at a sky darkened at midday to see a black hole cut out of it, ringed with light...indescribable.

I went with my aging father, who when I was a child took just me and him to Prince Edward Island to see the total eclipse there, in the '70s. I didn't know it then, but the Nashville trip would be the last we would take together. Literally and figuratively, the phenomenon of a total solar eclipse brought us full circle.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

We were socked in with clouds this morning, so it was a no-go here.

The 2017 eclipse was one of the best celestial events I've seen; glad that you got to see it with your father.

I'm already pondering travel plans for the April 2024 eclipse.  One of my favorite places will be in the path of totality, so it's a good excuse to take a vacation.

The 2024 eclipse will occur the day before my birthday, so I too am planning a vacation bash to go with it!
