Lowe's recently kowtowwed to pressure from a right-wing fringe group by pulling its ads from a show called All-American Muslim (a reality show that the fringe group is protesting because it portrays Muslim Americans positively, which the fringe group says isn't accurate!)

My opinion of Lowe's sank when heard this. Apparently they would rather support some group of religious bigots hiding behind their religion instead of the freedom of religion this country is supposed to stand for. It looks like Home Depot will be getting our home improvement dollars even though the closest Home depot isn't that nice a store.

Oh, the irony! The ad that popped up in the middle of your post, Skyth, was for Lowe's Home Improvement--which at the moment is justifiably getting its butt kicked in the court of public opinion for anti-Muslim bigotry!

Lowe's recently kowtowwed to pressure from a right-wing fringe group by pulling its ads from a show called All-American Muslim (a reality show that the fringe group is protesting because it portrays Muslim Americans positively, which the fringe group says isn't accurate!)

It's not just Lowe's either. Here's a full list of companies, so far, that have pulled out as well.

Well, looks like things are getting worse.

A Michigan state senator is looking at legislative action against Lowe's for pulling ads.

And Kayak.com has pulled their ads and issued a press release:
Basically Kayak thought the show sucked and TLC lied about the initial proposal.  From the looks of it, TLC will be out of a Lot of ads if it's true about the proposal. Companies hate being slammed for ads placed or pulled, so much easier to decline ads from anyplace that isn't seen to be 100% up front.

Going to have to look for a cite, but thought I saw that Home Depot had only signed up for one or two episodes of ads.  So, not pulled, but instead they did not extend their commitment.

Went and found a better list, as it were: http://theamericanmuslim.org/tam.php/features/articles/all-american-muslim/0018896

To quote the actual page:
Quote
Here is a list of companies that they claim to have succeeded in convincing to cancel their advertising based on this bigoted, hateful, anti-Muslim reasoning:  Note:  MPAC has now posted the list of the companies listed above that the FFA claims have caved to pressure.  The MPAC list has entered the url’s for the websites of each of these companies, so that all you have to do is click on the name of a company, and then go to the “contact us” section to send them a message.  Thanks MPAC!

So from what I understand.. this list was made by the FFA who claim these are the companies they pressured to pull their advertising (assuming they didn't lie to make the list seem bigger). The addition of "(claims they are misrepresented") was added by MPAC, I believe (which seems to imply they have pulled their advertising, for those specific ones, for whatever reason they claim, and were not falsely added).

I wouldn't make that assumption.

Right now, the only company that I know has confirmed that they pulled out due to the FFA is Lowe's, and so I'm making like Randall and giving my $ to Home Depot from now on.

Heh. We don't shop at Lowe's anyway, since they wouldn't deliver a kitchen cart we wanted, and then wouldn't hold it for a couple of days until we could borrow a truck.

A counter view about the quality of the show. Jersey Shore, not Cosby show

Yeah, I watched 2 episodes...prior to the controversy...and said, "Meh."  There are too many GOOD shows on TV nowadays for me to waste time on one that I don't really care about.  My brother's a Muslim, and he's even MORE "normal" than the people on this show.  Doesn't even OWN a hookah.  LOL.

On the other hand, the anti-Muslim bigotry being heaped upon it is despicable.
