Underworld Saint Becoming More Popular in U.S.

Here is an article about Santa Muerte.  I just thought it was interesting and may interest some people here.

Here is the article:  Underworld Saint Becoming More Popular in U.S.
I am the Goddess of Who I can Become. I mix the magic of the sorceress with the blade of a warrior. I walk the liminal pathways to see the face of the Goddess, both terrible and kind. As She stares back at me, I tremble in awe and ecstasy.  --SatAset

I worked with her for a while, both in Catholic form and in her Aztec form as Mictecacihuatl. She's...interesting. It wasn't a good fit.

It's always best not to read the comments on articles like this. It's always disappointing to see how low some people can go.

It's fun to see if the rabid angry Christians or the rabid angry atheists have more vitriol to spew in alternative religious articles. :P

This made me go read the comments and I just...can't. Seriously, everybody DOES NOT need to be breeding.

Thanks for the article! Santisma Muerte is fascinating. I know some hoodoo practitioners who work with her but warn about how dangerous she is. Folk saints interest me a lot.

I'll add my thanks for this link. I'd never heard of her before, but she very much resembles one of my goddesses. There must be something in the zeitgeist.

I wonder if this is part of a larger pattern of engaging with death that runs through Mexican culture, since el Dia de los Muertos--the Day of the Dead--is such a significant holiday there.

Only tangentially related, if any of you ever get to Paris, take time to visit the catacombs beneath the city, where thousands upon thousands of human remains are interred. Imagine wandering in an underground labyrinth surrounded by skulls you could reach out and touch (but absolutely shouldn't, of course), with words contemplating the meaning of death inscribed in stone along the way. It is an awesome experience.

The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

It would probably surprise no one that I've wanted to see the Paris Catacombs since I was in middle school.
