I worked with her for a while, both in Catholic form and in her Aztec form as Mictecacihuatl. She's...interesting. It wasn't a good fit.

Thanks for the article! Santisma Muerte is fascinating. I know some hoodoo practitioners who work with her but warn about how dangerous she is. Folk saints interest me a lot.

I'll add my thanks for this link. I'd never heard of her before, but she very much resembles one of my goddesses. There must be something in the zeitgeist.

I wonder if this is part of a larger pattern of engaging with death that runs through Mexican culture, since el Dia de los Muertos--the Day of the Dead--is such a significant holiday there.

Only tangentially related, if any of you ever get to Paris, take time to visit the catacombs beneath the city, where thousands upon thousands of human remains are interred. Imagine wandering in an underground labyrinth surrounded by skulls you could reach out and touch (but absolutely shouldn't, of course), with words contemplating the meaning of death inscribed in stone along the way. It is an awesome experience.
