I guess the eliminates the couple of possible candidates from Africa.  Pretty much leaves the Italian to be Pope.

The Orisha Oya is over storms and lightning.  She is female.
I am the Goddess of Who I can Become. I mix the magic of the sorceress with the blade of a warrior. I walk the liminal pathways to see the face of the Goddess, both terrible and kind. As She stares back at me, I tremble in awe and ecstasy.  --SatAset

Interesting. I always watch that Turkson guy, although apparently he has made some inflammatory racial comments? I am not sure.

Most Catholics tell me that the Pope doesn't exist to alter church policy, he exists to enforce it and be the final decree on controversial matters of doctrine. If someone is expecting a "liberal" Pope, they misunderstand the point of the office.

I was raised Catholic so I still find this stuff interesting, though I don't really embrace or agree with it nowadays. I play too much Europa Universalis III for this to not be important. :P

(Reuters) - Pope Benedict said on Monday he will resign on Feb 28 because he no longer has the strength to fulfill the duties of his office, becoming the first pontiff since the Middle Ages to take such a step.
