2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

It amazes me how often I come across this belief, and yet every time I do it boggles my mind.

It's because the Catholic faith isn't sola scriptura.  Plus they have idolatry, ancestor veneration, and Goddess worship.
Yeah I come from a fundie background so I'm familiar with the criticisms, silly as they are.

Am...I the only one who disagrees with this? In my experience, most practicing Christians believe (a) Atheism is synonymous with a lack of morals, not just a differing belief system, (b) that the country was founded by Christians and that the implication of "freedom of religion" was specifically placed to protect Christianity and not necessarily others, and (c) the party-line of "if you don't like it, get out".

If you define "Christians" as people who call themselves Christians, than I'd say the majority are a-okay, but if you define Christians as "people who go to church weekly and practice daily", then I would daresay they are a less accepting bunch....

YMMV depending on your area of the country, perhaps. But I live in the "least religious" city in the US, and I still find this to be true.

I have know lots of practicing, church-going Christians who aren't like this and many who are. I think ity has more to do with the denomination and the individual church (especially in denominations where each church is more or less independent) than anything else. However, area of the country/world probably comes in second.

Glad to see that not all Christians are being sucked into this sick man's world.

And in my experience, no practicing Christians believe any of that.  (Aside from performance artists on the news.)

There are actually quite a few (depending on how you define "practicing").  I've met several.  Online and elsewhere.

But definitely not most.

A great deal of that would be because his theology is sufficiently different from theirs that there's little risk of that.

Glad to see everyone else hasn't had the same crummy Christian experiences as me. I'm also related to a lot of loonies, so perhaps I just see it a lot more often.

Right?  And dry?

Don't tell anyone, but as a transplanted Alaskan, I'm actually kind of enjoying the cold right now.  Sorry.  Also I'll get more maple sap this year the longer it lasts...

Christianity is Hagee's excuse for spouting all manner of crap. It's also my grandmother's motivation for serving at the soup kitchen, donating to the women's shelter, taking food to sick people in the community (both as part of Meals on Wheels and on her own), and letting the single mother of two who's renting from her pay two months behind.  Disagreeing with people's beliefs doesn't necessarily mean they're not good people.

I...disagree? Heh. It's not their beliefs I have a problem with, it's their values, if that makes sense. I grew up with some wonderful Christians as family and friends. They would be good people with or without any religion, because they were good people, just like Hagee would probably be a dick no matter what trappings he puts on his dickery.

Just wanted to clarify that I wasn't hating on Christians, just morons.
