What does the rest of the verse say?  The Atheists only lifted the first four words.

Fine if they want to make that point; I'd agree with them.  But they can do that without errant scripture-clippings and poor representation of the facts.

Honestly, given how much their opponents love to cherry-pick the Bible to say any damn thing they want .... well, as much as I don't like the tactic, it's hard to blame other people for doing it in counterpoint.

Of course not.  The atheists in question have full rights to put up their idiotic board.  In

My point is: if you strike out too hard against a 'norm', expect an inevitable backlash.  Not saying it's right or wrong, more like action and reaction.

The problem is that you seem to be condoning the reaction rather than seeing it as the sign of a problem.

Now, what in there, besides a factual mention mention, construes a condonement of slavery?  Encouragment of it?

Hey, according to various people who claim to be Christians, mentioning something without condemning it is the same as supporting it.

Examples please.
Not casual mentions of the practice, but real exhortations to enslave.

In the old testament, the diety in question orders the Jews to conquer an opposing tribe and enslave/rape their women.

People are going to believe how they want to. There is no need in throwing your viewpoint in front of everybody. It just creates hostility and does more harm than good. I mean I'm not going to get a billboard and say hey why have one God when you can have many. It doesn't do any good, people believe they way they want to, and for most their not going to change their minds because of a billboard or whatever.

Putting out an opposing viewpoint should not be grounds for violence or property damage.  The problem is this sort of behaavior (The vandalizing of the billboard) is basically bullying to stay silent and let us do what we want.

It's the same as burning a cross in someone's front yard.

And I'd say you're wrong.
Again: mention of a practice is not a condonement of it.  Slavery was mentioned in Gone With the Wind as well, does that mean Margaret Mitchell condoned it?
Here is all of Colossians 3.  Errant Scripture-clippings make more sense when viewed in their proper context.

Any verse telling slaves to serve their masters is endorsing slavery in my book. And Colossians 3:22 certainly does tell slaves to serve their masters (and implies that Jesus is pleased when they do).

At best, it reads as an injunction to bear injustice gracefully because that's just how the material world is - can't be changed, and TPTB doesn't like it if you try to change it.

That's pretty much the definition of "condone" in my lexicon.

That's precisely why what the Pennsylvania legislators did, by declaring "Bible Month", is so crappy. Yet it's the fact that American Atheists responded--and rather cleverly--that seems to be upsetting some here (how dare they!), rather than the provocation itself. That gets a pass.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

I think both are in the wrong, there's no need for religion in the govt. and no need to put billboards up either. No matter what your beliefs are. If people want to know about a particular belief system then they can find out for themselves, I don't need  Bible months or Billboards to drive my curiosity.

Personally, I think the billboard is witty and understated.  I'm not surprised it was defaced - let's face it, that was probably a given - but the way it was done tweaks the tail of the Bible-month people without wasting money in a lawsuit or anything like that.

It wasn't really put up in the attempt to change anyone's mind.  It was put up to be an in-your-face response to Bible-month.  As such, it's clearly working!
