I can appreciate the idea but the execution is poor, I think it will accelerate the exodus.

But in terms of Christianity, this could prove to be a boon for Protestant churches that aren't quite so rigid and operate on less strict financial requirements. I know my family certainly wouldn't be Catholic if such a "church tax" existed here.

does your family pay their tithes faithfully?  Almost all christian churches talk about tithing, reading wikipedia, it looks like that tax is no more than 2 percent of income, at least in Germany.  it would get them out of (theoretically) having to listen to the appeals for money every week.

Uh, Protestant Churches do the same thing in Germany. You either get the govt to take the taxes out of your paycheck by telling them what church you belong to or turn your income tax info over to the church so They can tell the govt.

I haven't seen any responses from anybody from Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Austrian and other countries that collect it.

Nor has anybody apparently bothered to link to Wikipedia on the practice.

On the premise of taxes alone, then I wouldn't join either religious group. No wonder people don't join churches like crazy.
