A few Catholics still insist Galileo was wrong
« on: August 29, 2011, 03:16:11 pm »
Some people believe the world revolves around them — and their belief is born not of selfishness but of faith.

A few conservative Roman Catholics are pointing to a dozen Bible verses and the church's original teachings as proof that Earth is the center of the universe, the view that was at the heart of the church's clash with Galileo Galilei four centuries ago.

Facepalm...

Joke time:

A pagan dies and to his surprise he shows up at the gates of Heaven.  He is greeted by St Peter.

St Peter says, come on in, I'll show you around.  The pagan happily wanders around with St Peter.
They come to a hallway and St Peter says "shh be quiet while we go past this door."  The pagan says "ok, no problem."

They go by and after they travel a ways St Peter says, ok we can talk now.  The pagan asks, "why did we have to be quiet while went by that door?"  St Peter replied, "oh, that is the room where the Catholics are, they think they are all alone up here."

Do keep in mind this is the same faith where the Earth was created solely for Man and is his to do with as he pleases. :(

Sadly, as with any religion, there will always be extremists. Truth is about perception. They have their truth and the rest of us have ours. All we can do is try to educate. If they chose not to learn, then what can we really do?

The term "blind faith" is sometimes very accurate.

*headdesk* Don'tcha love people with willful blindness?

It always bugs me that the "Bible is the literal word of God" crowd conveniently ignore/forget that the Bible was written by mortal human beings in committee! GAH!
