2019 Donation Drive

It's time for our annual Server Donation Drive! We need to raise at least $650 (same as last year) to keep The Cauldron's server online for another year. Please help! Either hit that Paypal button to the right and make a one-time donation in any amount or set up a monthly Bronze, Silver or Gold Donor subscription. You can find more info in this message!

Donations as of 16 Sept 2019: $660 donated. $10 more our minimum goal! Let's beat last year's total of $99 more than the minimum!

Note: This total is updated manually, usually once a day

* "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" Problem Logging In?

If you get an "Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again" error when you try to log in, you need to be sure you are accessing the board with a url that starts with "https://ecauldron.com".  If it starts with https://www.ecauldron.com" (or "http://www.ecauldron.com") you will get this error because "www.ecauldron.com" is not technically the same website as "ecauldron.com". Moving to the more secure "https" means it is more picky about such things.

Where Does One Even Begin??
« on: June 21, 2014, 10:09:20 pm »
I have toed the line of Kemeticism quite frequently in these past 3 - 4 years. However, I always find myself completely overwhelmed, and with no UPG to go off of, I slink away.

There are a few gods and goddesses who interest me, but beyond a little study and a one-sided introductory chat with Them, nothing occurs.

I am curious to know if/how others dealt with this. Where do you finally decide to begin, or what really got the ball rolling after multiple failed attempts?

It may not be failure.  I had chats with them a few times & they're quiet on me right now. Sometimes they stay silent & hang back/ observe. Do you perform an iru? It's a quick ritual that can be done daily.

Overwhelmed how?  What have you tried to date?

You've probably heard this before, but direct deity interaction is actually quite unusual.  There are a disproportionately large number of people here at TC who note that they experience it but among the general population it is the exception rather than the norm.

Having said that, how did you introduce yourself?  What sources are you using, if any?

My situation is a little unique - Sekhmet was with me prior to my finding Kemeticism and I kept trying to shoehorn worship of her into frameworks that didn't fit.  Eventually, I found TC, learned about Reformed Kemeticism, and here we are.

Out of curiosity, where did you get your information about iru?

I found it in Following the Sun by Sharon LaBorde. I thought maybe the Gods would respond to something they may have been accustomed to... I think it's also called a basic rite? I don't have the book in front of me.

Huh.  I wonder where the derivation of that goes.  (The only meaning of "iru" I'm familiar with is a rather obscure term for appearances/manifestations of the gods that I've only encountered in... I think it's Meeks and hyphenated-Meeks.)

I'm not sure exactly what iru means other than somehow referencing a rite.

I start my rite this way:

"Come in peace, bright eye of Horus, come in peace, receive the light.
The Eye of Horus shines like Ra in the twin horizons and evil hides in fear before it, receive the light.
The Eye of Horus destroys the enemies of Ra in all of their abodes, receive the light.
The Eye of Horus comes and I am purified with it, receive the light"

And then I say/do this:

Cool waters of you inundation.
Incense of great purity.
The bread on which Gods live.

It's not to the letter, but I felt good about it.

I have tried both formal and informal ways of introduction. From lighting a candle with an offering of water, to an impromptu "hello" to the different Names.

I believe part of my problem is not knowing what, exactly, I am looking for. I do not expect a netjer to come directly to me and speak, but is even the feeling of a listening presence considered out of the ordinary?

I haven't really done any "out-of-the-book" rituals or offerings.

I do feel a female presence (I think??) and have for the past few years. Putting a name, or "face" to that presence has been all but impossible. However, ever since stumbling upon Kemeticism, I have felt drawn to the pantheon and the myths.

I've watched her video where she performs this rite, and while I think it's a lovely creation, I'm kind of hesitant to refer to it as iru. I, personally, don't know what meaning that has and I'd object to it being used as a common identifier. It's confusing for those who haven't read her book, anyways, I'd think.

Ah, I see. Maybe just call it a daily rite, or basic rite.

Yes. Maybe referring to it as "A daily/small rite designed by such and such". Less confusion. Though, I won't lie, it is a very lovely ritual in and of itself.
