Nebt-het, Nit, and Seshat
« on: February 03, 2013, 08:53:16 pm »
So, the Kemetic Orthodox wiki lists Nebt-het, Nit, and Seshat as being tri-aspected together (here), but I can't figure out where they're getting their info from.  Can anyone clarify this for me?

No idea.

It might be one of those more obscure syncretizations/aspect. . .izations, like with Sekhmet-Bast-Ra, or that one that includes Bes, Mut, and a whole slew of other Netjeru.

I spoke too soon. Nit has some funerary connections with Aset, Nebt-het, and Serket (the canopic jars). It also appears that Nit and Nephthys were both closely associated with mummy wrappings. Seshat was also one of the deities who restored the members of the deceased in the afterlife, along with Nebt-Het.

Interestingly enough, Nebt-Het seems to have some connection to destiny (unless Henadology's lying). Seshat, if I remember correctly, recorded the years of a person's life on a palm branch. Or she did that for the pharaoh at least. The two were identified with each other at least once in the Pyramid texts, apparently.

That doesn't proving an aspecting or syncretization, but it certainly leaves a little room for UPG. :)

Nebet Het-Nit-Seshat is an aspected deity within Kemetic Orthodoxy.  Basically, they are forms of Nit.  There are a few instances within antiquity where they are syncretized together (all three of them) and as Nebet Het-Seshat (in both the Pyramid Texts and Coffin texts) and Nebet Het-Nit (In a creation myth, Nit turns into Nebet Het, iirc).

Rev. Tamara Siuda has a book out that explains this further:  Nebet Het: Lady of the House and a PDF version:  Nebet Het: Lady of the House.  This is pretty much her idea.  And Jessica Levai expands upon it in her dissertation on Nebet Het (I don't think she gave Siuda credit, iirc).

Now how this works in practice is completely different.  All of them are treated as separate deities for the most part.  I know that some people experience Them as all-three as One and others just get Nebet Het or Nit or Seshat or even Nebet Het-Nit or Nebet Het-Seshat within their own devotional work.  It varies.

I have Nebet Het-Nit-Seshat as a Beloved within KO and I pretty much only get Nebet Het in my own devotional practice.

All right, thank you so much; that's very informative.

Just checked my RPD log to make sure, and Rev. Siuda says that these are aspected deities, not a syncretization.  For me, I'm most familiar with Seshat, which is why she appeared as my Beloved as Seshat-Nit-Nebet Het, and why SatAset's order is different.  Another way to think of Seshat in this context is as a triple goddess, borrowing from Wiccan terminology.  She can be worshipped as Seshat alone, or as all three together.  Basically, an aspected deity is one that has different "sides."  In KO they give all of the aspects for information purposes, but whether you worship only one aspect or all of them or even how you do it is a personal matter.

Within KO they are aspected deities.

Outside of KO, and within Egyptology, they would be most likely described as a syncretism.

Sorry, I must've missed that when you said it the first time in your post.  I thought you were talking about how they're viewed within KO.  My bad.
