Knocking at the Door
« on: February 24, 2014, 09:42:52 pm »
Hello!

I have poked my head into this forum a few times I believe, at least on the old boards. I lurk on occasion :)

I attend an Orthodox Christian church, but I believe more in the Ultimate Reality or the Absolute. I believe the different deities are manifestations of the Absolute.

Lately, I have become more aware of Wepwawet. I have had an affinity for Ganesh for a while, and Wepwawet seems very similar in terms of being a remover-of-obstacles.

I just wanted to introduce myself, and am interested in knowing how many others honor Wepwawet in their daily practice.

Hello, and welcome to non-lurking-dom! I have not worked with with Wepwawet, although I have had a run-in with him before.

If you haven't seen this already, here is Bezen's website on Wepwawet and other Jackal Deities at http://www.per-sabu.org

I honor Wepwawet regularly.  I have a shrine for Him with a black altar cloth, some necklaces (one wolf necklace; one hematite necklace) and a few statues.  I normally give Him red wine as an offering.  He seems to like Cabernet Sauvignon more than Merlot (but that could be just me *YMMV*).  I also have a red ninja rubber duckie on it.  He seems to get a kick out of it.
I am the Goddess of Who I can Become. I mix the magic of the sorceress with the blade of a warrior. I walk the liminal pathways to see the face of the Goddess, both terrible and kind. As She stares back at me, I tremble in awe and ecstasy.  --SatAset

My practice is all Wepwawet all the time. To say that I'm "really devoted" to him might actually be an understatement.

I'm also always happy to discuss him with anybody who wants to know more. There's so much more to him than most people ever realize.

Here's one that's been in my brain for quite a while: Does He have a preference when it comes to incense, or is it the act of it that matters more?

(I ask because while I could reasonably get kyphi, burning it on charcoal tablets tends to take a lot of time and effort and I feel like I'm wasting more than I'm giving. I generally tend to stick with high quality stick incenses, like those from Nippon Kodo, but that limits my scent choices.)

Myrrh if you can find it. I know there are a few companies that do straight-up myrrh incense sticks rather than the more prevalent myrrh and frankincense mixture (which can also be very nice and is fine to use, but isn't quite as evocative of him as myrrh on its own seems to be.)

One of his epithets happens to be "Lord of Myrrh", which is why I sought out that particular scent on its own to begin with. In my head I sort of 'knew' the scent I was looking for and I immediately found it in myrrh. If in doubt, epithets always lead the way!
