confusion
« on: April 29, 2012, 07:39:49 pm »
when i read "reformed kemeticism" my ADHD kicks in and i get sort of nauseous. someone please private message me and explain this in simple terms. from what i've read so far it's rather busy and intellectual to belong to the realm of intuition. just calling it like i see it.
Doubt me and make me stronger.

It's not "reformed" in the sense that the previous kemeticism was corrupt. I think the meaning is supposed to be "formed again." What some people call 'reconstruction.'

I think the main distinction is that people in this path try to discover what was done and the meanings of things, and see what can be used today. This might be contrasted with someone who is using the structure of Wicca with ancient Egyptian deities.

Back when I wrote my first blog post, I wrote this:
Quote
The eCauldron website uses the term “Reformed Kemeticism” for their SIG. I'm sure they mean it as re-formed, but it conjures up the image of people who used to steal barques on the Nile and go joyriding, or throwing crocodile eggs at the high priest of Amun. Now they're trying to do better. It's a fun image, but I'm sure if I used that phrase to describe myself it would give a feeling of “recovering alcoholic” to the whole thing.

That's not a bad thing IMO.  I would rather work with as much evidence as possible rather than rely on intuition.  I think it's a mistake to just follow someone else's UPG which can be way off base.  To do otherwise would make this no better than a cult.

As it says under the SIG header on the main page:

"The Reformed Kemeticism SIG is a "reformed recon"-oriented board focused on Kemeticism and related ancient beliefs. The primary purpose of this SIG is to develop a modern Kemetic religion that is strongly informed by academic information on ancient Kemetic beliefs and practices but does not attempt to strictly reconstruct ancient practices. "

Yes, it's intellectual. But, there is room for intuition (usually labeled as UPG) here as well. However, it's not likely that an entire argument could be made on intuition and gut feeling alone and actually find a foot to stand on here. FWIW, of course.

An authentic living practice can't be reached with just the intuitive or just the intellectual. It needs to be a marriage of both. Granted, the intuitive aspects are often more personal and so perhaps get discussed less than the intellectual ones. But I very much rely upon my intuition to give me direction and to point towards the academic bits and pieces which are more relevant to me. I just don't often see the need to break down that process and explain it every time someone asks for further information about a particular subject.
