Thoughts and Prayers for those affected by the shooting
« on: December 14, 2012, 09:44:44 pm »
I know there is kind of a thread like this already, but I wanted one specifically dedicated to positive thoughts and energy towards all those affected. I have a candle lit and sent out a small prayer for safe passage to the other world and swift healing for those who have lost friends and family in the shooting.

I have candles lit to my Theoi trio - Demeter, Persephone, and Hades. Demeter to comfort all the grieving parents, Hades as a thank-you for watching over the dead, and Persephone because my UPG says she's directly responsible for caring for babies and children who pass on before their time.
Maker, though the darkness comes upon me,
I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.
What you have created, no one can tear asunder.

It's very disturbing how someone could end so many innocent lives. May they rest in peace and be blessed wherever they are now.

*hugs*  I hear ya, Sage.

When I worked for a national child advocacy organization, one of my projects was gun policy as a health issue.  It was really hard.  One of the things that happened during those years (besides 9/11 and a tornado passing less than a block from my house) was the DC Beltway Sniper.  At one meeting of the gun policy group, we talked about the most likely scenario for his weapon and vehicle.  Turned out we were completely right.  So it's actually not impossible to predict -- and therefore, possibly prevent -- this kind of thing.

I know there are a lot of people who don't want to listen to even reasonable gun control proposals like the gun show loophole, mostly the NRA leadership (but, notably, NOT the vast majority of the NRA's membership!).  Something like 40% of all US gun purchases are unregulated.  That's insane.

There was an attack in a Chinese school today, too.  20 (I think) children were injured.  They were *injured*, not *killed*, because the attacker had a knife, not a gun.

It's way past time for this country to demand that our leaders act on this issue.  How many more children have to die???

/rant

Sorry.

Oh, yeah, and don't get me started on the desperate need for far better depression (and other mental health) screening and support, especially for teens and young adults.

Ok, NOW /rant.

People are suggesting that teachers should be armed now. :/

Prayers for the families, staff, and first responders living with this nightmare.

Thanks, Sage. A fitting picture.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

Thanks, I thought so too. Subtle, minimalistic, without politicizing or sensationalizing the event.

Very nice and focused on the victims instead of political positions.

Sage, I just posted that link to my FB wall. It's the best I've seen yet for this situation. Thank you.
