Requesting prayers for my lost cat
« on: August 30, 2012, 08:49:38 am »
I know this might seem silly, but I'm requesting prayers/energy for my cat, Luka.

We're not sure how it happened, but a few of our younger cats got outside 2 days ago.  When my daughters got home and found them on the porch, they were all terrified and desperate to get back inside.

Unfortunately, before my daughters could get the door open, a rather aggressive male stray who hangs around our house, showed up and somehow separated Luka from the others and chased him away.

Luka is the sweetest cat ever, but not the brightest.  He's only about 1 year old, and spent his first 6 months or so living outside with his mama and sister, until we managed to get them inside.  He hasn't been out since then (other than to go to the vet, of course).  We're hoping he remembers enough of his early training to stay safe.  But we live in a small neighborhood bounded by extremely busy streets.

We think he's tried to get home twice.  Each night we've heard a cat yowling match, but when we run outside, he's nowhere to be seen.  We think the older stay is still chasing him away from the house.

Tonight, we'll take turns sitting out on the porch, all night if necessary, in the hope that we can keep the stray away and get Luka back in.

I'm so worried about him.  And I know he's terrified and lonely and hungry and missing his mama.

Tl;dr, if you can spare a prayer or bit of energy, please send it Luka's way to help him get home safely.

Thank you.

Not silly at all!

I can imagine how worried you are. :(
Can you tell me a bit about how Luka looks? Might be able to reach him.

Thank you!!!

He's tall and lanky.  White and grey.  Grey face "mask". Green eyes.  His tail is all grey except for the adorable white tip.

I'm trying to attach a pic that shows him and his sister, Lucy.  She's the calico.

Thank you all so much!

Oh, a picture, excellent, just what I need.

I think he can see the house. Like he is in hiding under something, but not far away.
A fence, a thing out of wood?

He has no intent to run away, but he is scared of the other he-cat.
That one is prancing around your yard-area, boasting his he-cat-ness. (Red one?)

Luka is running around in that dodged way, when cats are scared, you know?
I tried to tell him, that he should go to you, when you're out. Hope he got it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, poor baby. All he wants to do is going home.

That all sounds exactly right, Tana.

Luka is probably hiding in our garage, under the deck/porch, or under the gazebo.  There are actually 2 older males out there threatening him now.  One is an orange tabby (probably the red one you see), the other is black and white.

If you can, please tell him he needs to go home to Mama and Lucy, and that he should watch for any of the people to be on the porch.  We'll check for him periodically during the day and protect him from the mean cats.

Thank you SO SO SO much!  I knew he's got to be terrified and panicked. But you've reassured me that he's basically ok and is trying to come home.  Thank you.

Will send up a prayer.

We have an outdoor cat who we adopted when his owner died, and I was traumatised for days when he disappeared for a short while, when he was new to us. He came back soon, though, when he had adjusted. I hope Luka isn't far away.

Okay. Good to know, I got the right contact. :)

Will try to tell him to just go to his hoomins, when he sees them. But animal is animal. It is hard to make them understand logical steps.

I think the orange tabby is the one he is scared of the most.

Well other than leaving out food for Luka to help him find his way home (if he isn't lurking nearby), is it possible for you to contact your local animal rescue and procure a cat trap or two? Not necessarily for Luka, but even removing the two tom cats from the situation for a little while to Luka run home might work (plus depending on your local laws, they may be neutered then released, which isn't always a bad thing. They'll keep off any other tomcats moving into the area, but they might end up less aggressive than before.).

Anything but silly. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to my cat. That so awful for him to be kept away from your home by mean cats, and I'm sending many prayers that he gets home safely, and that the other cats stop terrorizing younger ones.

I understand that it's not always easy to communicate, especially from so far away.

But, Tana, I think you did reach him.  After my last post, my daughter and I left for a doctor appointment.  When we stepped out of the house, we saw Luka sitting in the garage/storage shed door!

He's scared, and ran back into the hiding, but at least we know he's close.  And he seemed unhurt.  We put some food and water on the garage floor for him, and we'll start working on coaxing him out so we can take him back inside as soon as we get home.

Again, thank you so much!

That's a great idea!

Aww, good boy!
I tried to tell him, he should go to his humans.
Food and water is good, too.
I think he will be hungry soon, a bit too scared right now to feel it. But he might calm down. :)

As a quicker solution (depending on the cat and what he can cope with), you might try putting a small bowl of food inside a cat basket. That's what we did with Merlin, our aforementioned easily-spooked cat, when we needed him inside (to take him to the vet, as I recall). He eventually fell asleep inside the basket and we took him in.
